The official trailer for Fox’s animated pic, “The Book of Life,” has been released to the public. Read on for more details about this story.
Fox’s animated pic, “The Book of Life,” was first unveiled during a panel in the recently held San Diego Comic-Con.
The Guillermo del Toro pic is a romantic adventure inspired by the Mexican holiday festival, Day of the Dead. The story will follow the journey of Manolo, voiced by Diego Luna, a young Mariachi who is torn between fulfilling the expectations of his family and following his heart. In love with the beautiful Maria, voiced by Zoe Saldana, he will have to battle for her affections against the charming Joaquin, voiced by “Jump Street’s” Channing Tatum. The spirits La Muerte, voiced by Kate del Castillo and Xibalba, voiced by Ron Perlman, bet on who will win the affections of the young maiden. Afraid to lose the bet after Maria falls for Manolo, Xibalba sends a snake to kill Manolo, hoping that this will result in Joaquin becoming Maria’s lover. In order to return to the human world and to Maria, Manolo embarks on an incredible journey that spans three fantastical worlds, where he must face his greatest fears.
Gutierrez explained that he wanted the film to look exactly like the concept art in “The Art of…” books.
“I saw every single one that comes out and my biggest heartbreak is that I see all this glorious art, and then the movie doesn’t look like that! The mandate of this movie was: Our ‘Art of’ book is going to look exactly like the movie. And every artist poured their heart and soul into that idea,” said the director in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.
The “Book of Life” is an upcoming 3D computer-animated adventure romantic comedy film produced by Reel FX Creative Studios’ Guillermo del Toro and distributed by 20th Century Fox. The film is co-written and directed by Jorge Gutierrez and will feature the voices of Diego Luna as Manolo, Zoe Saldana as Maria, Channing Tatum as Joaquin, Christina Applegate as Mary Beth, Ice Cube as The Candle Maker, Kate del Castillo as La Muerte, Ron Perlman as Xibalba, Cheech Marin as Pancho Rodriguez, Héctor Elizondo as Manolo’s Father, Plácido Domingo as Manolo’s Great-Grandfather, Ana de la Reguera, Eugenio Derbez, Gabriel Iglesias as Pepe Rodriguez, Ricardo Sanchez and Danny Trejo as Manolo’s Grandfather.
It is scheduled to be released on Oct. 17, 2014. That’s it for the latest updates on the “Book of Life.” For more updates on upcoming movies, stay tuned here on Movie News Guide (MNG).
