No more Christmas release for Paramount and MGM’s “Hot Tub Time Machine 2.” The sequel will be pushed back into a late winter release. Read on for further details.

Paramount and MGM has re-slated the release of the sequel “Hot Tub Time Machine 2,” pushing the title for a Feb. 20, 2015 release. In its original release, the pic would have faced off with Sony’s Seth Rogen and James Franco starrer comedy “The Interview,” slated for Christmas day. According to The Hollywood Reporter (THR), Paramount wanted more room for their release of Chris Rock’s dark comedy “Top Five,” which Paramount acquired in September.

Other pics contending for box office during the Yuletide season include Universal’s Angelina Jolie directed “Unbroken,” Disney’s “Into the Woods,” which will also release on Christmas day, starring Emily Blunt, Anna Kendrick and Meryl Streep and Sony's musical “Annie,” WB’s “The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies” and Fox's "Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb," which launches a week before.

In “Hot Tub Time Machine 2,” four years after altering the past and successfully changing their lives, best friends Nick Webber, Lou Dorchen and his son, Jacob Dorschen (Yates from the previous film) must now once again travel through time, hot-tub style, to stop Lou’s inadvertently death. But instead of travelling to the past, they are flung 10 years into the future where they are joined by Yates’ (Cusack) future son. They must now change the future so they can do something with the past, which is really the present.

The time travel comedy brings back actors Rob Corddry, Craig Robinson and Clark Duke to reprise their roles from the first film. They will be joined by Adam Scott and Gillian Jacobs. Scott will take over the lead role as Adam Yates Jr., Cusack’s character’s supposedly future son. Cusack will not be making an appearance in the film due to conflicts in schedule.

“Hot Tub Time Machine 2” is directed by Steve Pink and written by Josh Heald, who also co-wrote the first film.
