“House of Cards” (HoC) Season 3 has yet to come after the binge-worthy airing of Season 2 last February 14, 2014. So, we have to wait for quite a while before we could have a glance again at Netflix’s flagship series. Missing the “House of Cards” already? Check out our latest scoop on the “House of Cards” Season 3 spoilers.
“House of Cards” follows the life of our anti-hero, South Carolina representative Frank Underwood (Kevin Spacey) and his journey on gaining power in Washington, D.C. It also stars Robin Wright (Claire Underwood), Kate Mara (Zoe Barnes), and Corey Stoll (U.S. Representative Peter Russo).
Created by Beau Willimon, the Netflix series is the U.S. adaptation of Andrew Davies’ BBC drama based on the novel of the same name written by author Michael Dobbs. Willimon is joined by other executive producers David Fincher, Kevin Spacey, Eric Roth, Joshua Donen, Dana Brunetti, Andrew Davies Michael Dobbs, John Melfi and David Manson.
According to The Hollywood Reporter (THR), Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos confirmed that the series had renewed for the third time. It was announced several days ahead from the premiere of Season 2.
“I think if you look at the original House of Cards, there was a natural third season, and we could go well beyond that.” Sarandos said in a statement posted on the THR article.
The serial drama series is also Netflix’s first jump on acquiring original content, which has been proven to be successful. The season renewal is a great move indeed as the series gave them several accolades from the Primetime Emmy Awards and Golden Globe Awards in 2013.
Here’s the breakdown on the latest updates that we have learned about “House of Cards” including spoilers for Season 3.
Delayed production. According to Breathecast, the previous tax dispute between the producers and the Maryland legislature has now been settled. The Netflix series will resume production in mid-July 2014. It was also said to be a good investment for jobs in Maryland.
Casting calls in Bel Air. WTOP confirmed that the show’s producers are in the lookout for extras with their best political look. It was said that the audition includes parts for the NSA director and two reporters, as well as three senators.
More seasons for HoC? Robin Wright expressed her willingness to be part of the series if the seasons would be stretched for five to eight more.
“We’re only on the second season so far. When you think about all the other shows that have gone on five, six, eight seasons. We’re amateurs in a sense. We’re Bambis in the woods,” Wright said in The Wrap article.
Moreover, Collider got the chance to interview “House of Cards” star Kevin Spacey during the theatrical run of Sam Mendes’ “Richard III.” His recent theater gig has been featured in the documentary “NOW: in the Wings on a World Stage.”
Frank Underwood’s inspiration. Spacey said that creator Beau Willimon had based his character on Richard III. He also shared how the Shakespeare character inspired his character in “breaking the fourth wall.”
More reasons to stay. Spacey also compared the series to the Pope, claiming that HoC can last longer like a Pope stayed on position for years. He also noted about the future of “House of Cards.”
“The truth is, as long as Beau Willimon, David Fincher and I, and our creators feel that there is fertile ground to explore, I see no reason why we can’t stick around for a while,” Spacey added in the Collider report.
