Aquaman is currently filming in Australia. The solo movie stars Jason Momoa in the lead role as he is gearing up to bring the aquatic hero’s story to life.

Following Momoa’s footage in the Justice League trailer, which has been hailed as the most dynamic one, fans have started to expect a lot from his solo movie.

Going by the anticipation and Momoa’s portrayal of the superhero, chances are his solo movie will be unlike any other DC movie.

Cast

Aquaman has a really talented cast. Joining Momoa are Amber Heard, Patrick Wilson, Nicole Kidman, Willem Dafoe and Yahya-Abdul Mateen II.

Momoa has already impressed fans with his portrayal of the hero that was seen in the Justice League trailer. Heard is playing Mera and going by her pictures that have emerged recently, she has been garnering appreciation from loyal comic book fans for her close resemblance to the comic book character.

Wilson’s look as Ocean Master has not been revealed yet but with him already having a massive fan following, having him as the main villain is an added advantage to the movie.

Comic book origin

The entire DCEU is based on the New 52 comic series. As a result, DC movies are trying to be as close and loyal as possible to the comic books. The latest picture of Heard as Mera is just one of the examples of how the movies are trying to bring the comics to the silver screen.

Another image of Heard and Momoa that was released very recently shows the first interaction of Heard’s character with Momoa’s, which has been taken straight from the comics.

The scene takes place outside a bar and shows Mera confronting Arthur after he comes back from his father’s funeral. Going by this, fans can expect to see a lot of other scenes taken straight from the comics and put in the movie.

Aquaman’s image

Until now Aquaman has been the butt of all jokes. There have been fans of the character but for the most part, the character has had to deal with some ridiculous jokes.

DC has managed to stop the Aquaman jokes to some extent, due to Momoa’s casting. Now Aquaman will prove to be one of those movies that will end up completely changing the lead hero’s image. Post the release of the movie, it can be said for sure that haters will stop mocking the character and start to see the hero in a new light.

James Wan

James Wan is also one of the reasons why the movie will set itself apart. The Conjuring and Furious 7 director are known for his unique style of filmmaking. Going by that, he will surely bring something different in the superhero movie.

ComicBookMovie.com reported that if Wan delivers scenes as good as Furious 7, fans can be assured that Aquaman will become one of the most successful projects.

Plot

No official plot for the movie has been released yet but reports have been speculating about it. From what is known, Aquaman will be the aquatic superhero’s origin story as Arthur Curry comes to terms with who he really is.

Born to a human father and an Atlantean mother, Arthur will realize that he is a demigod and has the responsibility to protect both the land dwellers and his Kingdom of Atlantis. Before Aquaman, fans will also get to see him this year in DC’s ensemble Justice League.

Release date

Aquaman is scheduled to release on Dec. 21 next year.
