Hugh Grant plays a washed-up screenwriter-turned small town college professor who falls in love with his student in the upcoming movie entitled “The Rewrite.” Read on to learn more about this story.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Oscar-winning actor plays the role of Keith Michaels was British screenwriter who had won the Academy Award for Best Screenplay in 1998. Since then, he had divorced and gone broke. He begins teaching a screenwriting course at a small college on the East Coast of the United States and falls in love with a single mother played by Marisa Tomei. It happened during the time Grant’s character got caught in a web of lies with Hollywood actors Matt Damon and Ryan Gosling.
“The Rewrite” is written and directed by Marc Lawrence developed at Castle Rock Entertainment and marks the fourth collaboration between Lawrence, Castle Rock, and Grant. Their previous works include “Two Weeks Notice”, “Music and Lyrics”, and “Did You Hear About the Morgans?” Allison Janney, J.K. Simmons, Bella Heathcote and Chris Elliott also star in the pic.
Grant last film appearance was in 2012 for the film Cloud Atlas. Grant achieved international success after appearing in the Richard Curtis-scripted “Four Weddings and a Funeral,” since his breakthrough role he has frequented mainstream films such as “Mickey Blue Eyes” and “Notting Hill.”
Grant had established himself as a leading man with sporting comic skills that include a nonchalant touch of irony and sarcasm. He has also appeared in films such as “Bridget Jones’s Diary”, “About a Boy” and “American Dreamz.” In his career spanning 30 years, Grant has received a Golden Globe, a BAFTA, and an Honorary César and his films have earned more than US$2.4 billion from 25 theatrical releases worldwide.
“The Rewrite” first premiered at a gala screening at the Shanghai International Film Festival on June 15, 2014 with FilmNation Entertainment handling the sales of the pics distribution in territories outside the United States. The film is scheduled to be released by Lionsgate in theaters in the United Kingdom on Oct. 8, 2014. A theatrical release in the United States has yet to be scheduled.
