Will Smith is sure that he will not be making a return for the sequel of the 1996 sci-fi movie “Independence Day 2,” and now the studio is looking for a younger and more popular option to take the lead role as they are considering “Hunger Games” actor Liam Hemsworth. Read on to know more about the details of this scoop.
The hit alien movie of 1996 “Independence Day” is scheduled to have it sequel going through production any time soon, but it seems like things are getting hazy with the way director Roland Emmerich and Producer Dean Devlin are experiencing difficulties in putting things together for this planned franchise tackling alien warfare. There were no issues yet as to who are really going to part of the sequel and what will it be all about. However, it appears as though Fox, together with the film’s helmsman, are looking to tap a younger actor to play the lead role. Right now, they are thinking of getting “Hunger Games” star Liam Hemsworth.
The Wrap made the revelation about Liam Hemsworth’s possible involvement in the “Independence Day” franchise. Such a rumor actually makes sense since director Emmerich made the statement that the sequel will be featuring old and new characters, with Jeff Goldblum and Bill Pullman on standby to reprise their roles. Apart from Hemsworth, Michael B. Jordan is also being considered to take part in the sequel. To think Jordan is also regarded as a rising star with the way he plays the Torch in Fox’s upcoming “Fantastic Four” reboot.
From the looks of such speculations, it would appear that the studio is either planning on picking between the two rising stars or have them join together to star in the production of this sci-fi alien war film. Emmerich’s wishes to “expand the mythology of the aliens” is fixed, and it’s evident he wants to pick the right stars who could uphold the standard of the original as well as transcend it.
Hemsworth can be seen in the last installment of the “Hunger Games” franchise, “Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part – 2,” on Nov. 20, 2015, while Michael B. Jordan is featured as Torch in the “Fantastic Four” reboot showing in theaters on Aug. 7, 2015. “Independence Day 2” is slated to hit the theaters next year on June 24, 2016.
