British actor Idris Elba, who’s rumored to play the next James Bond, has finally decided to respond to haters vehemently protesting his involvement in the role by posting his own reaction on Twitter. Read on for further details.
When one of Sony Pictures’ hacked emails surfaced naming "Thor" actor Idris Elba as the next James Bond, the internet exploded with a mass of feedback, prompting People’s 2013 Sexiest Man Alive to make a retort of his own:
“Isn't 007 supposed to handsome? Glad you think I've got a shot! Happy New year people.” The Hollywood Reporter described Elba’s mild rejoinder to the black Bond dissent reported by the Huffington Post, ranging from strong protests to outright racist and misogynistic reactions:
“Worst idea EVER! Never in a million years…lets make Mickey Mouse a Cat while we’re at it as well,” posted Simon White.
“Why doesn't the black world create their own characters and literature and stick to that for characterisation in films,” a certain CommentatorfromUK remarked.
“Why not have a female Bond – you know, if we're on course to totally f — k the franchise beyond all recognition,” said London Cabbie.
Meanwhile, there is an ongoing campaign on Facebook to get the three-time Golden Globe nominee into the shoes of the debonair British spy, but it looks like protesting 007 fans are having none of it.
