The 2015 American comedy-drama film “Inside Out” produced by Pixar Animation Studios and released by Walt Disney Pictures was a global hit, grossing unbelievable sales of $500 million till last week. Many impressed viewers are hoping and praying for a sequel. What do the makers intend to do? Read on to know.
“Inside Out” was not just about super-cute 3D animations, it spread a very serious message about human consciousness and subconsciousness, which grabbed the attention of all age groups and was appreciated beyond pre-release expectations.
The extremely well-researched plot focuses on the mind of an 11-year-old girl named Riley. It personifies five regular and natural human emotions like – Joy, Sadness, Fear, Anger and Disgust, that play in her mind. The debut director Pete Docter had been very particular and showed instances based on the non-fictitious functioning of the brain and proven scientific evidences.
After such an overwhelming box office success, there were shooting questions from the media and fans about the possibility of a sequel.
In one of his recent Entertainment Weekly interview, Docter further created suspense by saying, “There’s no sequel idea from me at this point,” adding that he’d rather work on more original projects. But not all hope is lost. “Never say never,” he teases.
Pixar has a history of delayed follow-ups, so it can be expected that we won’t get to see the “Inside Out” sequel any time soon.
“I was really caught off guard,” says Pixar Animations Studio president Jim Morris. Adds Docter: “The amount of people going into theaters last weekend was insane. And to me, that’s the desired audience. People watching not on their iPhones, but in a theater,” reports Entertainment Weekly.
Such grand success and expectations might just change Docter’s mind and we might get “Inside Out 2” soon.. All fingers crossed.
