Insidious: Chapter 3 gets a release date! Focus Features has announced an April 3, 2013 release date for the third installment of the supernatural horror series. (Via Deadline)
FilmDistrict, which released 2010’s Insidious and the sequel, has now been merged into Focus Features in September, and Insidious: Chapter 3 is one of the first two films which will be slotted by Focus Features.
Leigh Whannell, writer of the first Insidious movies, is back to pen the script for the third time, while Jason Blum and Oren Peli will be producing via their Blumhouse banner. After James Wan’s open statement of staying out of the horror genre, we’re unlikely to see him directing the movie. No director to replace Wan has yet to be announced.
Lin Shaye’s character as well as paranormal investigators, Specs and Tucker (Whannell and Angus Sampson), are reportedly returning for the sequel. No word on Patrick Wilson, Rose Byrne, Ty Simpkins or Barbara Hershey coming back.
The original Insidious and its sequel have been low-budget horror movies, which grossed around a net of $245 million globally from a combined budget of $7 million.
