After Tony Stark’s billion-dollar escapade in “Iron Man 3”, fans wondered when would we see Robert Downey Jr. in another solo movie again. The actor was not and still does not talk about it and neither does the studio reveal if they have any plans for a fourth installment or not. However recent revelations by “Iron Man 3” director Shane Black have given an insight on the movie’s sequel.
According to Realty Today, Shane Black said that “Iron Man 4” might happen and Robert Downey Jr. will star in the titular role again. The director’s statement about the movie negates rumors that Robert Downey Jr. would get replaced since his character Tony Stark in “Iron Man 3” got his arc reactor removed from his chest and hung up the Iron Man persona. Early reports also suggested that Ty Simpkins who played the role of Harley Keener in “Iron Man 3” would take up the Iron Man responsibility from Tony Stark however the director in his interview still maintained that Robert Downey Jr. will be back for another “Iron Man” movie and he is sure about it. The media outlet quoted Venture Capital Post saying that the movie will release in Phase 3 after the release of “Avengers: Infinity War- Part II” sometime in 2019.
Marvel Studios definitely might have some plans with where do they plan on taking the Iron Man franchise to. Currently rumors are going on that both Marvel and Robert Downey Jr. are negotiating certain terms since the actor has asked for a raise in talent fee from his current pay. It was reported that he was paid $50 million for the previous installment “Iron Man 3”. Since Marvel has been on a successful streak and “Iron Man 3” thundering at the box office with collections worth more than a billion dollars, it can be assumed that Marvel won’t really mind giving Robert Downey Jr. whatever price he is asking for. The studio is currently busy with their upcoming movie “Captain America: Civil War” in which Robert Downey Jr. is again going to feature as Iron Man. The movie will hit theaters on May 6th.
