Avengers: Infinity War will create some unexpected team-ups. In the battle against the Mad Titan Thanos (Josh Brolin), the Earth’s Mightiest Heroes will have to work with the Guardians of the Galaxy to save the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and here are the superhero duos that fans have to look forward to when the first part gets released next year.

Doctor Strange & Spider-Man

They have both appeared in their own solo movies but, for the first time, fans will see them work together to protect their city: New York. At Disney’s D23 Expo this weekend, Benedict Cumberbatch (Stephen Strange) and Tom Holland (Peter Parker) with co-director Joe Russo got to talk to Good Morning America to tease what fans would see in the upcoming movie.

“There’s a really great chemistry there,” Russo shared about Holland and Cumberbatch. “I mean, they both have a proximity to each other if that’s a hint that I can give? But anybody who’s a Marvel fan will know that they both reside within the same city, and I think that Tom and Benedict have a great chemistry, and we wanted to exploit that.”

Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange was not introduced to the Marvel Cinematic Universe until November last year, so he lost the chance to be included in the big fight between Avengers against fellow Avengers in Captain America: Civil War. That said, he also did not get the chance to fight alongside or against Holland’s Spider-Man.

While Avengers: Infinity War will be the first time that the two will be teaming up against a common foe, Spider-man and Doctor Strange already has a great friendship in the comic book universe. At least, albeit briefly, fans will get to see the dynamic between Spider-Man and Doctor Strange get translated from comic books to the big screen and might open up doors for crossovers in the future.

How and why the two will team-up remains under wraps. Cumberbatch joined the cast later into filming and, from leaked photos of the set, he will be battling one of Thanos’ henchmen. From the looks of it, the new Sorcerer Supreme is no match against the Black Order and he might need the help of one friendly neighborhood Spider-Man.

Iron Man & Drax

In a separate interview, Dave Bautista revealed that, finally, fans will see his character, Drax, alongside Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.). The actor revealed months back that the two superheroes will share a screen and, now, her shared what the experience was like.

In an interview with Good Morning America at D23 this weekend, Bautista revealed that the first meeting between Drax and Iron Man exceeded his expectations.

“I’ve said for years and years and years that I hoped the crossover would happen, because I thought that Drax would have such great interactions with Tony Stark,” he stated. “And it’s gonna happen, and it’s good, it’s really good. It’s better than I thought it would ever be, I’m really excited about.”

Bautista even recalled his first meeting with Downey who, during the premiere of Avengers: Age of Ultron, sought him out to to praise his character in Guardians of the Galaxy“I just felt totally at ease with him, and it makes for good chemistry when you’re comfortable with someone,” the actor shared.

The interactions between Drax and Tony Stark will definitely be interesting to watch on the big screen. As fans very well know, Stark is a master of sass and, in contrast, Drax does not understand metaphors. Expect the two to provide the comedy as the Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, with help from the Guardians of the Galaxy, battle against Thanos.

Avengers: Infinity War will be released on May 4, 2018.
