The “Pitch Perfect” star may be in line to host the Oscars in the coming years.
Right now, it doesn’t seem likely that this will happen next year, but with the announcement that Anna Kendrick will be making a special appearance at the 87th Academy Awards on Feb. 22, 2015, people started buzzing about it.
Here’s a bit of a mystery. The producers of the show have dropped some hints about the details of Kendrick’s appearance and only said that with her transition from the her movie “Into the Woods” and into the Oscars stage, Kendrick is set to perform something memorable and assured an Oscars-worthy moment.
The last time that this happened was five years ago when Neil Patrick Harris surprised everyone, appearing on stage and performed a song-and-dance performance as the show’s opening number. Lo and behold, Harris is now hosting the Oscars 2015.
Since the producers have hinted that Kendrick will be singing a song from “Into the Woods,” but the movie is not even nominated in the Best Original Song category, it surely says a lot. But most likely, they’re just referencing the film since that’s her latest project.
It’s most definite that Kendrick has the chops to do drama and comedy. Proof of this is her Oscar nomination in 2009 for her performance in the movie “Up in the Air.” She has also appeared in “Saturday Night Live” and did comedy sketches along with some musical numbers on the show. Just like Harris, Kendrick is no newbie in the Broadway community. She was nominated in 1998 for a Tony in the musical for “High Society” for Best Featured Actress.
It’s been over two decades since the female comic star Whoopi Goldberg became the first woman to hold the hosting duties back in 1999. Since then, a woman has hosted Oscars, and yes, that includes Anne Hathaway. A lot of people are shipping the comic duo of Tina Fey and Amy Poehler to be the next host since their departure from their hosting duties at the Golden Globes, there’s no reason why Kendrick could not be a possible choice.
Let’s wait and see how everything pans out on Feb. 22, 2015.
