For those who need a refresher, Itachi was considered a genius ninja hailing from Konohagakure’s Uchiha clan. He became an international felon after killing all members of the Uchiha clan, saving only his young brother Sasuke Uchiha, Naruto Wikia said.
Itachi became a member of the notorious and powerful Akatsuki. After witnessing how Itachi killed all the members, including his parents, Sasuke would hunt Itachi to kill him.
Sasuke successfully killed Itachi in a battle between their Sharingans. And after Itachi’s death, his motives were known and found to be very complicated. It was then understood that his actions were only for the interest of Sasuke and the village. Thus, his loyalty for Konoha remained right from the beginning.
