J. K. Simmons Cast in ‘Kong: Skull Island’

J. K. Simmons is set to star in Legendary Pictures’ upcoming "King Kong" pic, “Kong: Skull Island.” Read on further details.

According to Deadline, actor J. K. Simmons is set to join Tom Hiddleston in Legendary Pictures’ "King Kong" adaptation. The film was originally slated for a Nov. 4, 2016 release date but recently slipped to an early 2017 premiere. Moreover, Legendary has also updated the movies working title “Skull Island” into “Kong: Skull Island.”

Simmons is known for his roles as Skoda on the NBC series "Law & Order," Vernon Schillinger, on the HBO prison drama series “Oz” and J. Jonah Jameson in Sam Raimi's "Spider-Man" trilogy. He is also the voice of Tenzin in “The Legend of Korra” series and Cave Johnson in the 2011 puzzle game “Portal 2.”
His recent film appearance is in the drama pic, “Whiplash,” where he played as Terence Fletcher, an intensely demanding conductor at the fictional Schaffer Conservatory of Music, where he bullies and cajoles the protagonist, Andrew Neyman, played by Miles Teller. The film won wide acclaim, and Simmons' performance was singled out, with multiple critics calling for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor.

“Kong: Skull Island” will be directed by ”The Kings of Summer” director/producer Jordan Vogt-Roberts, from a script by John Gatins and Max Borenstein, who also wrote for the monster pic “Godzilla.” Exact details on the film’s plot are still unknown, but the official description "Kong: Skull Island" is referred to as “a bold new take on the mythos” of King Kong, which will delve deeper into the origins and myth of King Kong’s home — Skull Island.

“Previous works have touched on the island, but staying on and exploring this mysterious and dangerous place offers Legendary the opportunity to take audiences deeper inside this rich world with a style and scope that parallels other Legendary productions,” stated Legendary.

"Kong: Skull Island" hits theaters on March 10, 2017.
