Thirty years since his debut in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, the intergalactic crime lord Jabba the Hutt might be making a comeback to the big screen. A new rumor claims that the villain has a huge role in Disney and Lucasfilm’s troubled young Han Solo movie.
Jabba the Hutt’s Connection With Han Solo
Jabba the Hutt’s involvement in the spin-off, which will recount the life of Han Solo before he met Luke Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi, has long been speculated. Now, a source that has knowledge about the inner-workings of the franchise has claimed that not only will the slug-like alien be in the movie, he will also have an important role in shaping the Han Solo that fans were introduced in Star Wars: A New Hope.
According to The Hashtag Show, one of their trusted sources shared that Jabba the Hutt has a significant role in the Han Solo script that former directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller have been working on. Unfortunately, the video has been removed from YouTube, but Screen Rant reported that the addition of Academy Award winner Ron Howard will unlikely change anything when he comes on-set next week.
Moreover, the source also claimed that Jabba the Hutt will be part CGI-part cinematronics to merge the versions that fans have seen from the original trilogy and 1999’s Star Wars: The Phantom Menace.
Given that the movie will be about the life of Han Solo before he became a hero of the galaxy far, far away, it makes sense to include Jabba the Hutt. The beloved space smuggler has a long and, likely, bad history with the crime boss of Tatooine. His appearance in the still-untitled anthology might finally reveal why he placed a bounty on Han Solo’s head.
Moreover, earlier this year, the movie was spotted filming in a location that resembles Tatooine which fired up speculations about his return. However, none of this remains official and, therefore, should be taken with a grain of salt.
Emilia Clarke’s Role
In other news, Emilia Clarke has finally spoken about her involvement in the young Han Solo movie. The actor who rose to fame thanks to her role as Daenerys in Game of Thrones, has been added to the cast in Nov. 2016.
However, her role remains a mystery months after filming began in London. In an interview with The Rolling Stone, the 30-year-old talked about the new character who will debut in the upcoming spin-off.
“All I can say is that she’s awesome,” the actor spilled. However, because Disney notoriously has a gag order to cast and crew in order to avoid giving away spoilers, she cannot divulge more details about the new character. “Like, legit, that’s all I can actually get away with saying.” Clarke even joked that a Stormtrooper is watching her every move. “There’s a stormtrooper with a gun, and he’s going to come walking in any second,” she said.
This is not the first time that the actor has joked about the secrecy surrounding the movie. A few months ago, she commented that the Star Wars spin-off is even more secretive than HBO’s Game of Thrones.
Clarke joined an A-list cast that includes Donald Glover as the young Lando Calrissian and Woody Harrelson as Han Solo’s mentor. Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Broadchurch) and Thandie Newton (Westworld) also appear in still-undisclosed roles. Alden Ehrenreich, meanwhile, replaces Harrison Ford as the Star Wars universe’s new Han Solo.
The young Han Solo movie will land on the big screen on May 25, 2018.
