The actor who is known for the achievements he has made in the movie industry rather than living in the shadows of his parents, Jake Gyllenhaal stars in the upcoming Open Road Films movie by Dan Gilroy, “Nightcrawler.” Read on to learn more about this scoop.
The first thought that could probably come to mind with the movie’s title would bring about the presence of a supernatural thriller, but it is just plain passionate dose of insanity. Jake Gyllenhaal brings about a different shade of his acting skills in his upcoming movie thriller, “Nightcrawler.” You’ve seen his performance in the sci-fi film “Source Code” and how endearing he can be in “Love & Other Drugs.” This time around, you’ll catch a glimpse of how he portrays a passion-driven reporter who delivers his prowess in the brink of insanity.
The movie is a nerve-wracking thriller set in the nighttime atmosphere of the modern-day Los Angeles. Lou Bloom (Gyllenhaal) is a passionate young man who is in desperate need of a job. He later on comes to a realization of his interest towards the fast-paced realm of crime journalism in LA. With this newfound endeavor, he teams up with a group of freelance camera crew that are adept in filming adrenalin-inducing mayhems in the metro. He then begins to plow his way through the dangerous world of crime nightcrawling, which involves tapping into the radio of policemen and heading towards the direction of the latest onslaught and filming it. Now carrying an exclusive footage of the latest tragedy, he knows that each reel weighs with a certain monetary value. He later on gets aided by local TV news veteran, Nina (Rene Russo), and gives Lou a spot in the news program wherein he becomes the star of his own story.
Watching the trailer, you could sense a placid taste of madness with the way he repeatedly says his motto in life: “If you want to win the lottery, you have to make the money to buy a ticket.” There is just so much passion in the way the film was created. In some scenes that were already intense on the script alone, they were magnified a tenfold when it was acted out. According to Screen Rant, Gyllenhaal received a couple of stitches in his hand after he perfected the scene of violently punching a mirror. In the trailer alone, it’s fairly evident that his character, Lou Bloom, is one emotionally deranged and morally challenged human being.
From an excerpt in Yahoo! Movies, the 33-year-old actor is going through a somewhat huge come back ever since he starred in the films “Prisoners,” “Enemy” and “End of Watch.” Moreover, the actor lost a lot of weight to properly exude Bloom’s character as someone who is “literally and figuratively hungry.”
The movie is written and directed by Dan Gilroy. Based on the feature from Variety, Gyllenhaal is also one of the producers of the film alongside Jennifer Fox, Tony Gilroy and chairmen of Bold Films Michel Litvak and David Lancaster. The executive producer of the film is Bold Films’ CEO Michael Walters, who is paired with Betsy Danburry.
Suffice to say, Gyllenhaal’s portrayal in this film is something to look forward to. “Nightcrawler” will be screened at the Toronto Film Festival and will be premiering in theaters on Oct. 17, 2014.
