‘James Bond’: Pierce Brosnan Weighs In on Why the Character Won’t be Shown as Gay Anytime Soon

Pierce Brosnan has been one of the best James Bond there is. With his evil killing, martini drinking and women loving portrayal being hailed so much Pierce could not help but voice his opinion on the issue of Commander Bond’s sexuality. His opinions explained why there wouldn’t be a gay Bond any time soon. Read on for more details.

According to Cinema Blend, while promoting his upcoming movie “No Escape,” the former James Bond star expressed his happiness at the growing acceptance of LGBT community back home in Ireland.

Brosnan was also kind enough to explain the possibility of when fans will be able to see a Gay Bond now that we are witnessing global acceptance of LGBT characters everywhere. The “Die Another Day” star explained that it all comes down to Barbara Broccoli who has been the torchbearer of the franchise.

According to the actor, he surely didn’t mind seeing Bond’s sexuality changing however he mentioned that such an idea would never pass till the time Barbara is running the franchise. He added that she would simply not allow such thing to happen. This certainly does not mean that she is against the LGBT community, but it would be hard for her to adjust to this major alteration.

Guardian reported that a scene in “Skyfall” lightly touched upon the issue of Bond’s sexuality. Remember the scene where Daniel Craig’s Bond is at the private island and Javier Bardem’s character Raoul Silva moves his hand on Bond’s chest? When Raoul says “There’s a first time for everything,” Bond quickly responds by saying “What makes you think this is my first time?”

Much of what the dialogue meant was left on the audiences to decipher for themselves, however at the time Craig stated that he did not think about the character being gay.

Whether or not we’ll see this major alteration in Bond’s personality remains to be seen but fans can certainly look forward to watching Bond’s latest offering “Spectre,” which will release this year.
