James Bond: ‘Poldark’ Star Aidan Turner Loses 007 Role To ‘The Night Manager’ Star Tom Hiddleston?

James Bond is probably now a role that is out of Aidan Turner’s reach. The “Poldark” star and fans might be in for a bit of disappointment as betting on the next James Bond has circled in on a major movie star as Tom Hiddleston is being touted to take on the role.

Following recent reports about Tom meeting with James Bond producer Barbara Broccoli and Sam Mendes in London, it is almost certain that Tom Hiddleston is inching close to stepping in Daniel Craig’s shoes. This and his performance as Jonathan Pine in “The Night Manager” have only added more credibility.

Though it has also been rumored that Aidan Turner, too, met Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson in LA, this London meet with Hiddleston seems to trump Aidan and other frontrunners’ hopes of becoming the next Bond.

Neither Tom nor Aidan have said anything about Bond rumors but this update only adds more weight to Tom’s chances. Also, bookies have stopped betting on Tom and now believe that he will indeed be the ninth actor to take on the role of the world’s most iconic spy.

This does come across as surprising because Tom is already an established star, and normally, actors with humble acting portfolios are chosen to take on the role and they later on end up achieving stardom. Daniel Craig, Pierce Brosnan and Sir Sean Connery are the examples of the same as they gained recognition after having been cast as Bond.

Aidan has a massive fan following and is an up and coming star with looks, which makes him one of the top choices to play the next Bond. But maybe it was Tom’s charm and performance as Jonathan Pine that served as his audition for James Bond. This said meeting took place at Soho, London, and present for the meeting were “Skyfall” and “Spectre” director Sam Mendes along with Barbara Broccoli.

Irish Independent reported that “Sherlock” star Andrew Scott believes Aidan Turner will make an excellent Bond once Daniel Craig steps down from the role. The “Sherlock” villain though did not mention as to when would Craig step down.

Movie Web, in other news, added that Tom Hiddleston seems to be running away with the title of the next James Bond as reports of him meeting Bond producer and Sam Mendes have already increased his odds. According to the outlet, Tom is at the right age to play the role and “The Night Manager” has already proven how good he is.
