James Gunn Says Whatever Else He Does for Marvel Will Probably Be in Marvel Cosmic

In a lengthy podcast interview, filmmaker and "Guardians of the Galaxy" helmer tells fans that whatever else he’d do for Marvel will probably be tied in the Marvel Universe’s cosmic side. Read on to learn more about this scoop.

“Whatever I do for Marvel will probably be characters within Marvel Cosmic, which would be characters which are connected to this part of the universe. And if I told you too much who I'm interested in, then I would probably give out too many secrets," told the "Guardians" helmer, as published on Comicbook.com, who was asked if he’d be willing to take on other Marvel franchises outside the world of "Guardians."

Gunn went on and shared that with "Guardians," he was able to create his own universe, and this excites him.

Gunn, who directed and wrote the original pic, will be returning to direct the sequel for “Guardians of the Galaxy,” which will see the return of the five original cast members including Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana and Dave Bautista, who will be joined by other unspecified members of the film’s cast, as well as new additions for the ragtag team in a story that will unravel some of the secrets posed in "Guardians of the Galaxy.” Marvel’s Kevin Feige is set to produce the sequel, which is on course for a May 5, 2017 theatrical release.

"Guardians of the Galaxy" has become the breakout movie of summer 2014, becoming the second highest grossing movie of the year and the highest grossing superhero film of 2014 at the worldwide box office, earning a worldwide total of $772.1 million. Based on the Marvel Comics superhero team of the same name, “Guardians of the Galaxy” is the 10th installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures featuring an ensemble cast including Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Lee Pace, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou, John C. Reilly, Glenn Close and Benicio del Toro. Much of the praise went to the film's light-hearted humor, nostalgic soundtrack, Gunn's direction, and the performances of the cast.
