Bravo’s “Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce” has yet to roll out its first season on the small screen in December, but a major cast member is set to leave the show. Janeane Garofalo, who plays one of the lead character’s best friends, will exit the series by October. Read further to learn more about this news update.

“Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce” is already filming its episodes in time for its debut on Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2014, on Bravo. But according to TV Line, which first broke the news about Garofalo’s departure from the series, the actress will no longer be part of the show after October.  Sources said to TV Line that the exit of her character, Lyla, is “part of the evolution of the character,” meaning it’s supposed to follow the exposition of the story’s plot.  The report also said that it wasn’t clear whether her character’s departure was planned even before filming began.

The producers of the series, headed by Marti Noxon, are already scouting for a new actress who will be filling the void that Garofalo’s character will be leaving. The new actress to replace her will be taking on a different role on the show.

“Girlfriends Guide to Divorce” is based on a best-selling book series written by Vicky Iovine. The television show is the first original scripted series Bravo has enlisted for the network. Lisa Edelstein will be leading the cast in the role of Abby, the self-help guru who finds out that her perfect life is collapsing and finds comfort in dealing with her divorce from her girlfriends. In July, it was also announced that Bernadette Peters would be joining the cast as Abby’s mother. The show also features Paul Adelstein, Beau Garret, Necar Zadegan, Laverne Cox and Carrie Fisher.

The series will run for thirteen episodes beginning Dec. 2, 2014.

And that’s the news on Janeane Garofalo’s departure from Bravo’s “Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce,” which is currently filming its first season. The show will be coming to the small screen in December.
