The television show host and journalist admitted as well that she once had a date with Jeff Probst, the host of Survivor, though it did not work out as no other dates between the two followed. She said Probst wore puka shells, which to her was kind of weird.
The next day after Couric’s announcement on Stern’s radio show, Probst e-mailed a publication from a remote location that is the spot were CBS is shooting the upcoming Survivor series Blood vs. Water.
The Emmy Award winner, who is 51 and has been happily married since 2011 to Lisa Ann Russell, spoke about his short-lived relationship with Ms. Couric. He explained why the relationship did not go beyond a first date.
Probst said the two had been set up by a mutual friend number of years ago. That same friend is said to have tried to set the two up since 2001 but a few years later was able to put a date together for the two of them.
He says he can remember how nervous he became at the date and how little he added to the conversation. The two talked about her children and the challenges that accompany a parent with teenagers.
Some talk centered on their careers and lifestyles but nothing beyond just the surface. Couric has two daughters 17 and 21 and lost her husband to colon cancer at the age of 42 in 1998.
Probst said at that time he would have asked to go on another date. He said he never called back because the first date had been set up with her assistant and he never was given her phone number. He said calling Couric’s assistant for a date felt weird.
