Mystique, played by America’s current sweetheart, Jennifer Lawrence, could get a chance at starring on the possible “X-Men” spin-off movie reportedly in the works! What are you waiting for? Read on to learn more about the developments on Mystique’s own “X-Men” movie.

Lawrence played  the young version of the blue-skinned shape shifter  in 2011’s “X-Men: First Class” and will be seen again in “X-Men: Days Of Future Past” in 2014. She portrayed Mystique before she became part of the “X-Men” who was named Raven Darkholme in her former life. The character was previously portrayed by model/actress Rebecca Romijn in “X-Men” (2000), “X2” (2003) and “X-Men: The Last Stand” (2006).

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the creative team behind the successful “X-Men” film franchise are considering for Mystique to have her own spin-off movie. Simon Kinberg, producer and writer for “X-Men: First Class,” praised the portrayal by the Oscar-winning actress.

“I love what Jen Lawrence has done with her, and I feel like because she is in such a crowded ensemble, there’s so much more opportunity if you were to follow her solo.” said Kinberg to EW.

According to Variety, Lawrence has been tapped by “X-Men: First Class” director Michael Vaughn to play the role of Mystique after her Oscar-worthy role in “Winter’s Bone.” Her career continued to rise with her portrayal of Katniss Everdeen in the record-breaking movie “The Hunger Games.”

If Mystique’s spin-off movie  from 20th Century Fox would push through, Lawrence would be the second one who will have a separate “X-Men” movie after Hugh Jackman’s character, “Wolverine.”

It seems that expanding comic book characters with spin-off versions has been a successful move for studios in reaping millions at the box office. Marvel  Entertainment skyrocketed the careers of several Hollywood celebrities with “Iron Man” (Robert Downey Jr.), “Captain America” (Chris Evans), “Thor” (Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston), “The Incredible Hulk” (Edward Norton, Mark Ruffalo) and ABC’s “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.”

Lauren Shuler Donner, who is the producer of all “X-Men” films, explained  that they are also considering the idea of giving spin-off movies to other “X-Men” characters aside from Mystique.

“There was a regime [at the studio] that didn’t see the worth in [spin-offs], and the current people who run Fox understand, embrace it, and we’re going to do right by it,” said producer Donner to EW.

“I’d like to do Gambit. I’d like to do Deadpool. We’ll see. There’s a lot of really great characters,” she added in the EW report.

Donner has been hinting on getting “21 Jump Street” star Channing Tatum to play the Cajun-card throwing Gambit. On the other hand, Ryan Reynold remains interested on a possible “Deadpool” movie. Reynolds previously played the role of Deadpool/Wade Wilson in “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” (2009).

Speaking of characters, Collider asked Mark Millar (the creative consultant for the latest “X-Men” film) of how many possible movies that FOX could get out of the franchise.  Millar answered that “there’s a good five to ten golden franchises in there” but that they should not make haste decisions.

“You’ve got to grow things organically. We’re not talking crossovers or that kind of stuff yet, you know. I mean, the idea is just to sort of build everything up quietly, in its own way and bring in the best possible talent,” said Millar in the Collider interview.
