Jimmy Fallon and Justin Timberlake really know how to open “Saturday Night Live” (SNL) 40th Anniversary Special as the two perform some of the show’s famous catchphrases. Read on to learn more about this scoop.
According to US Weekly, the talented duo performed a musical skit. It all started with Fallon, a former SNL cast member before he was shortly interrupted by Timberlake.
Fallon looked pretty confused by Timberlake’s interruption and said that the show was one that “inspired generations of comedians around the world.” The two then started rapping some of the show’s famous catchphrases until Timberlake began referencing to Andy Samberg’s “Dick in a Box,” and the duo started performing a musical medley of past sketches and cameos.
Some of the performances highlights were in reference to the 1998 sketch “Schweddy Balls”, Coneheads, Mr. Bill, and Chris Parnell and Samberg’s “Lazy Sunday.”
“We are two wild and crazy guys,” sang Fallon and Timberlake.
They also referenced to the infamous “More Cowbell” sketch, which featured Fallon himself together with Will Ferrell, Chris Kattan, Christopher Walken, Parnell, and Horatio Sanz.
It wasn’t long before Rachel Dratch interrupted their performance to do her infamous “Debbie Downer” character. She joked that most shows, which opened with a musical had low ratings. Timberlake answered, “NBC doesn’t care about ratings” and the two went on to their performance.
Molly Shannon came in as one of SNL’s famous characters, Mary Katherine Gallagher, a Catholic schoolgirl.
Before Fallon and Timberlake started the show, they took a snapshot together backstage and shared the photo via SNL’s Instagram page. Kristen Wiig also took a snapshot with Will Forte aka “Greg Stink,” while he was hugging her from behind. The photo was captioned: “Greg Stink is a lucky guy. #LiveFron8H #SNL40.”
Kim Kardashian also posed for the camera backstage together with her husband, Kanye West in one photo and another with Chris Rock. Taylor Swift also performed “Shake It Off” with Paul McCartney at the show’s after-party.
