Joan Lunden in Warrior Mode Against Breast Cancer
ABC television talk show host Joan Lunden autographs a baseball cap for Army Sgt. 1st Class Nathan E. Wilson, a Joint Staff security specialist in the Pentagon. Lunden visited the Pentagon for her fourth “Behind Closed Doors” special, to be aired in October. She interviewed Defense Secretary William Perry and Army Gen. John M. Shalikashvili, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and visited other Pentagon nerve centers. (Note: Her jacket is civilian; the stripes are ornamental.)

Joan Lunded endures the most painful truth as she reveals that she is suffering from breast cancer. Read on to know more Movie News Guide’s (MNG) scoop about the former anchor.

Lunden was a “Good Morning America” (GMA) anchor from 1980 to 1997, the longest staying host the show ever had. Unfortunately, she needed to face reality one Tuesday morning at ABC as she disclosed to Robin Roberts that she had already begun undergoing chemotherapy after being diagnosed of breast cancer as reported by Daily News.

On Twitter and JoanLunden.com, the host wrote that her ultrasound showed a tumor located in her right breast. Afterwards, she continued that her doctor performed a biopsy and told her the news she did not want to hear.

According to CNN, Lunden wanted to keep it to herself at first.  After giving herself some time to gather the strength she needed, she decided to deliver the news to her fans on television. Lunden said in her interview with Roberts that she has decided to discuss it in public because she has lived a life of joys and frustrations that are meant to be shared with everyone since the time she accepted her role as host of GMA. She said she could vividly remember how she shared her pregnancies, all her relationships and her career to all her viewers. For her, hosting on television is like getting everyone to join her in all her life’s journeys and the challenge that she is facing at the moment is something she feels worth sharing.

The interview was very significant for both Lunden and Roberts for a very apparent reason. The former GMA host offered her first television appearance to talk about her disease to co-host Robin Roberts who herself is a breast cancer survivor. While giving the details to Roberts, she confirmed that she was hit by an aggressive form of cancer, which really was shocking to her because she has been a health advocate herself, telling women in the whole America to make it a point that they find time for their check-ups. To her, it was the point when she asked what she did wrong.

Lunden is trying to learn everything she needs to regarding breast cancer and asserts that she is in “warrior mode.”

That’s it about Joan Lunden’s battle against breast cancer. Check out Movie News Guide (MNG) regularly for more updates about your favorite celebrities, movies and television shows.
