It’s morphin’ time, with the 2017 “Power Rangers” movie just picking out its Red Ranger. Newcomer Dacre Montgomery will be leading the team of brightly clad teenagers in the fight against ridiculous aliens. Read on for more details.

If you are wondering who exactly Dacre Montgomery is, you are not alone. According to Screen Crush, his previous acting laurels include an unaired pilot, and a short that ‘12 people have seen’ (We assume that you weren’t part of that select circle, but “Bertrand the Terrible” has quite a good imDb rating). To fix that, take 11:27 minutes to acquaint yourself with the Red Ranger as ‘Fred.’

Now that we know who Dacre Montgomery is, let is take a moment to figure out who exactly the Red Ranger is. According to director Dean Israelite, the reboot will be a ‘mature yet playful’ look into the Power Rangers universe. We know a lot about the Rangers from the character bios that were already released.

We know for instance, the Montgomery’s character will be called Jason, and he will have a troubled past:

“17 years old, the makings of someone or something great if he would just get out of his own way. Jason was a legend of this town—a freshman quarterback with the skills to take him all the way. Until, one night Jason wrapped his car around a pole and busted out his knee. Everything Jason was going to become ended in an instant. And with it, he lost himself. When we meet him at the start of the film, he’s a kid in need of redemption. By the end, he’ll be leading this disparate group of teens to shed their individual baggage and find who they truly are.”

The news comes in the wake of the announcement of “The Martian’’s Naomi Scott has been cast as the Pink Ranger. Now all we need is Black, Blue, Green and Yellow, and we will have a full set of Ranger colors.
