Justice League Dark will explore DC’s supernatural side. The team is not well known when compared to their counterparts but they still have a vast history in the comics.
Edge of Tomorrow director Doug Liman is helming the live-action version for WB/DC and he recently revealed some details.
Doug Liman’s comments
Screen Rant reported what Liman said about the DC movie. According to him, the story of Justice League Dark will be a small and personal story, which will revolve around the character especially the team’s leader John Constantine.
Also mentioning that it is his goal to do a personal story, Liman added that he and his associates have found a way to make the movie more character driven and intimate.
In his previous comments about the movie, he stated that he has an unconventional approach toward the movie and that it will turn the comic book genre on its head.
Since the DC movie will be character driven, one of the most important aspects for the makers would be to choose the right characters for the movie.
It is known for a while that Justice League Dark will focus on characters like John Constantine, Zatanna, Deadman, Etrigan the Demon and Swamp Thing.
With two powerful sorcerers, two monsters and one ghost, Liman will have a big challenge to somehow portray the above-mentioned characters in a heroic light. And since the movie will focus especially on Constantine, the filmmaker will need to have a completely different approach with the project.
Who Fans Want
While no official confirmation regarding the cast of the movie has been made yet, fans of the supernatural team have already begun to cast actors for the characters.
Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them star Colin Farrell is the top choice for the role of Constantine. There were even rumors that the studio was looking to cast him as the lead of the movie.
Many fan-casts have also put Joel Edgerton and Tom Hiddleston as good choices for the role of occult detective.
As far as other members of the team are concerned, Baywatch star Alexandra Daddario is fans’ choice for Zatanna, Hellboy star Ron Perlman or Taken star Liam Neeson for Swamp Thing, Poldark star Aidan Turner for Jason Blood/Etrigan the Demon and Woody Harrelson for Deadman.
Will Justice League Dark work?
DC movies, unfortunately, till now have not gone down well with critics. The critics have slammed DC movies for being too dark. With DCEU now changing course and looking to make movies that are more fun, Justice League Dark could be one of the movies that might strike the right chord.
Eventually, it would depend on how well the story is written and how well does each character in the movie evolve.
There are no details available about the movie’s plot yet. But with DC looking to explore its supernatural side with the movie, it could revolve around a battle between the team and demonic forces.
This year’s animated movie Justice League Dark saw a demonic invasion on Earth and how Batman teamed up with Constantine and others to stop evil forces from taking over.
The live-action movie’s story could work on a similar plot but since the movie has a small and personal story, it would refrain from using major DC characters like Batman.
Justice League Dark does not have an official release date yet. But with DC planning to release another movie next year with Aquaman, the Liman directorial could take that spot.
