Kanye West has spoken candidly about his views on technology and culture during a surprise appearance at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity titled “Technology, Culture, and Consumer Adoption: Learning to Read the Cultural Landscape” on Tuesday, June 17, 2014.  The 37-yearold rapper has evaluated the Apple’s Beats deal.  According to him, the move was an endeavor by the Cupertino magnate at bonding with culture after losing its hold to some extent since Jobs’ demise. The deal was to a certain extent influenced by Samsung’s collaboration with rapper Jay-Z in 2013.

West’s adherence to Apple is absolutely profound and he admitted he is not a Samsung enthusiast.  But, he admitted that he appreciated the Korean giant Samsung’s choice to work with Jay Z, which fetched the brand incalculable cultural consistency.

He branded Apple as one of the biggest influencers and eulogized Beats co-founders, Jimmy Iovine and Dr. Dre, for having the prudence to work with them.  He also stated that the Beats deal happened just because of the Samsung deal. Samsung demonstrated the importance of connecting with culture at the Translation’s seminar.

During a New York Times interview in 2013, the newlywed West had distinctively compared himself to Apple’s late founder and CEO Steve Jobs. He stated that he is the Steve of Internet, business, style, culture. A staunch Apple fan, West restated during the Cannes Translation’s seminar that Jobs influenced him to do what he did.

Apple announced in a press release  on May, 29, 2014 that it has acquired headphone producer Beats Electronics for US$3 billion (S$3.8 billion), of which US$2.6 billion will be paid in cash and US$400 million in stock. CEO Tim Cook had stated in the company’s press release that the acquisition was meant to produce the most innovative music products and services in the world by bringing together the extraordinary team-up of Beats and Apple.

In an interview with Recode, Apple CEO Tim Cook states that Beats co-founders Jimmy Iovine and Dr. Dre will continue as full-time employees working under Apple’s Senior VP of Internet Software and Services, Eddy Cue..
