Prometheus 2 casting recently revealed the name Katherine Waterston, who also stars in the upcoming Harry Potter spin-off ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’. Waterston seems to be having her plate full as she’s also slated to star in Ridley Scott’s ‘Prometheus’ sequel, ‘Alien: Covenant.’
Set to play the female lead in the said film, Waterstone’s character will be seen opposite Noomi Rapace’s Elizabeth Shaw and Michael Fassbender’s android David. As fans may remember from ‘Prometheus’, only Shaw and Fassbender survived the ravages of the first film’s plot. Waterston’s casting, if anything, may indicate that ‘Alien: Covenant’ would not follow Shaw’s story in the main plot.
Waterston’s role in Ridley Scott’s new upcoming film reunites her with Fassbender, who was her co-star in Danny Boyle’s ‘Steve Jobs’ (2015; Waterston played Chrisann Brennan opposite Fassbender’s Steve Jobs).
Director Scott had tabled aside the filming of the Prometheus sequel in favor of completing the Matt Damon starrer ‘The Martian’ in time for the awards season. With that finally done, the filming of ‘Alien: Covenant’ commences, with details about the plot and the casting thrown to the press like well-timed scraps. Earlier, it was also revealed that Conan Stevens, who played “The Mountain” on HBO’s “Game of Thrones,” had been tapped to play the Engineer. The upcoming film, also referred to as ‘Prometheus 2’, is said to follow the story of the colony ship Covenant, which is bound for the far side of the galaxy and instead finds a new planet, a seemingly uninhabited paradise. And knowing that this is a movie about nasty flesh-eating aliens, you already know that the phrase “uninhabited paradise” will give you the screaming mimies.
Waterston is no stranger to playing leads—she starred in Paul Thomas Anderson’s critically acclaimed stoner film, ‘Inherent Vice’ (2014), where her role as Shasta Fay Hepworth confounded and challenged viewers. In 2016, she will be introduced to a different set of fans with the widespread release of ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’, a spin-off of JK Rowling’s Harry Potter series, in which Waterston plays the pivotal role of Porpentina Goldstein.
