Madonna has chosen Katy Perry to act as guest curator for her online public art project, Art For Freedom, which encourages artists to submit, poetry, videos, music and pictures to express their take on freedom.
Over the course of this project, Katy Perry will be working alongside Madonna to help pick out a unique expression of freedom which will demonstrate a unique view of the fight for human rights.
“I am so fortunate to have the freedom to express myself through music,” said Katy Perry. “Now I’m calling all of my incredibly creative KatyCats to use their talent to show Madonna and me how they express their freedom.” Katy went on to say that this year, 2014 can be a year of ‘social change’ and she also encourages us to join in on the ‘conversation’ and be a part of the movement.
Perry’s pick will receive a $10,000 grant to a nonprofit organization of their choice. Illusionist David Blaine was last month’s guest curator.
“Art can change the world, but first it needs to be seen and heard,” said Madonna. “Katy Perry and I are asking you to be that voice and show us how you define freedom in 2014. This will be a year of monumental changes for human rights, and we want you to be a part of that change. Let us hear from you.”
Art For Freedom has received over 3000 submissions globally ever since its launch in September 2013, most submissions came through, artforfreedom.com
