Keri Russell admitted in an interview that she did not expect to team up with Matt Reeves in the film.
“This is not the project I thought we’d be doing together, let’s be honest,” said Russell in the IGN article. “This is so crazy and ambitious and epic. I had no idea what I was signing on for. He had a phone conversation with me and just said, ‘Please come do this.’ I said, ‘Matt, I’m finishing this show, I’m so tired.’ He said, ‘Just come do this with me,’ and I’m so glad I did,”
In the same interview, Russell revealed her excitement at having to work on the film alongside motion capture king Andy Serkis, as well as with other members of the cast, which include Jason Clarke, Gary Oldman and Kodi Smit-McPhee. She appeared with her co-stars in the premiere of “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes” held at the Palace of Fine Arts Theater in San Francisco, California on June 26, 2014.
“Dawn of the Planet of the Apes” is scheduled for release on July 11, 2014 in the U.S. It is the sequel to the 2011 film “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” and is the eighth installment of the “Planet of the Apes” films. Set ten years after the events in the last film, it revolves around a growing nation of genetically evolved apes led by Caesar (Andy Serkis) and a group of human survivors of the deadly virus which wiped out most of humanity. An uneasy truce was formed by the two groups until both sides are goaded into a war that will determine Earth’s most dominant species. Keri Russell will portray Ellie, the second wife of Jason Clarkes’ character Malcolm. Gary Oldman is cast as Dreyfuss, the leader of the human survivors who want the apes wiped out.
