Marvel Cinematic Universe is a vast movie universe. It has multiple characters existing together however, not all characters are a part of it. Due to an old deal, some characters ended up with Marvel’s competitors.
But now it seems Marvel is working on a plan to getting all of the other characters back in their universe.
Kevin Feige’s statement
Screen Rant reported what Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige said about all the Marvel characters that are not in MCU right now. According to him, his goal is to replicate the experience that fans have had while reading comic books and get the same on the big screen.
In the comic books, Marvel fans have had the pleasure of reading and seeing the likes of Captain America and Wolverine working together. But since these two characters are in different cinematic universes, the two collaborating on the big screen has not been possible yet.
However, Feige in his statement expressed that he is grateful that somehow Marvel and Sony were able to work things out and at least get Spider-Man in the MCU.
Not wanting to reveal much, he also added that right now there is no plan to get other Marvel characters in MCU but no one knows what will happen in future.
Grand plan for MCU
According to the outlet, the whole revelation of MCU’s grand plan comes from the conversation that Jeremy Lasky had with Feige. Lasky, who co-owns the company that redesigned the logo for Marvel studios shared that a grand plan for MCU was discussed.
This grand plan involves getting all the Marvel characters back in MCU that are not a part of the cinematic universe yet. If this happens, then Marvel characters like X-Men, Fantastic Four and Deadpool that are a part of Fox’s cinematic universe will become a part of MCU.
Also, Spider-Man whose film rights are held by Sony will have a bigger and better future in Marvel’s universe.
X-Men and Fantastic Four in MCU
If Marvel and Fox work out a deal, X-Men and Fantastic Four could jump over to MCU. This could open new possibilities. Marvel could get creative control of these characters and take a different approach to these two teams.
While X-Men has been a slightly successful venture, Fantastic Four is one Marvel property out of MCU that really needs serious help. Both the versions of Fantastic Four failed to impress the audience and if it were to go to Marvel now, maybe the studio can turn it into a successful project.
To make it successful, Marvel will perhaps re-cast the entire team and give them a fresh start. When it comes to X-Men, classic characters like Wolverine, Charles Xavier could come back as well. The outlet quoted what Hugh Jackman said during the release of Logan.
According to Jackman, he would reprise his iconic role again if the character were to appear in an Avengers movie. So if X-Men’s rights go back to Marvel, there are chances fans could see Jackman’s Wolverine again sharing screen space with the likes of Robert Downey Jr. and others.
Spider-Man in MCU
As for Spider-Man, Marvel and Sony inked a deal some time back, because of which the web-slinger was able to make his MCU debut in Captain America: Civil War.
He will be appearing in Spider-Man: Homecoming this year then in Avengers: Infinity War and its sequel. He will also appear in a planned sequel to his solo movie.
However, no plans are known if he will be in MCU or go back to Sony. If the web slinger were to come back permanently, he would have multiple appearances and perhaps become a big part of Marvel Phase 4.
MCU is in its third phase right now and there are a lot of movies that they have planned. Spider-Man: Homecoming, Thor: Ragnarok, Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers 4, Ant-Man & The Wasp and Captain Marvel are some of the upcoming movies.
Avengers: Infinity War is being shot currently and Spider-Man: Homecoming and Thor: Ragnarok will release this year.
This year Spider-Man: Homecoming will release on July 7 and Thor: Ragnarok will hit theaters on Nov. 3. Next year Black Panther will release on Feb. 16, Avengers: Infinity War will release on May 4 and Ant-Man & The Wasp on July 6.
Finally, Captain Marvel will release on Mar. 8, 2019 followed by Avengers 4 on May 3, 2019. It remains to be seen if other Marvel properties find their way back to MCU or not.
