Kevin Hart Hosts the First Episode of ‘Saturday Night Live’ for 2015

“Saturday Night Live” (SNL) is back after a hiatus for the holidays. Good thing energetic comedian Kevin Hart is chosen as the comeback’s host on Saturday, Jan. 17, 2015, because he started “SNL” 2015 with a bang. Read on to know his shenanigans last episode.

Hart started roughly when a brief yet embarrassing technical problem came up. In the segment “Why’d You Pose That,” he just threw a bunch of punchlines and adlibs while waiting for the monitor to flash the correct image. The glitch was forgotten as the segment went on with his lively aura and rude statements to innocent yet careless Instagram users that made the segment hilarious.

Hart’s “Bushwick, Brooklyn 2015” sketch is pretty hilarious as well despite its simplicity. He was with Kenan Thompson and Jay Pharaoh. The three guys, who looked like thugs, kept it cool while murmuring at the side of the street about “artisanal mayonnaise,” trying out spin class, having brunch with girlfriend, going out with 10 “bitches” or female dogs and partying with wine and paint. The contrast of their rugged looks and prim lifestyle can undoubtedly elicit laughter.

The comedian also had a standup performance for five minutes. He talked about his son’s private school, new house and fiancée and a “thug raccoon” that can open locks.

Netizens love Hart’s “Get on Up” sketch as he impersonated the legend James Brown. Bloggers even claimed that he could be a contender for Eddie Murphy’s memorable Brown impersonation. Despite Hart’s failure to perfectly embody the singer’s smooth dance moves and groovy voice, the imperfections made it comical.

The sketch’s premise was Brown’s 1971 stage show at Apollo Theater when he made an interlude to spontaneously talk to his band about getting “more funky.” Everything in the sketch was amusing – the brightly colored suits, Hart’s curly wig and the dull response from the band while keeping up with Hart’s demand. When a panoramic view of the stage is shown, Hart’s messy and exaggerated moves made him stand out from the rest in a funny way.
