“Killjoys” Season 1 Episode 2 “The Sugar Point Run” aired on Friday, June 26, 2015 at 9:00 p.m. on SyFy. In this episode, together with D’Avin Jaqobis (Luke Macfarlane), the team sets out to a deadly hostage exchange that would take place at Sugar Point in Westerley, a dangerous land filled with warlords and scavengers. Meanwhile, Dutch (Hannah John-Kamen) struggled with what she should do next about the box her old mentor left on her ship, as it had meant that she had one week to accomplish the mission he had just given her. Read on to learn more about this episode.

The episode began at the Outer Quad. Johnny Jaqobis (Aaron Ashmore) tried to keep Lucy (voiced by Tamsen McDonough) attached to the smuggler ship that they were trying to bring in. This woke up Johnny’s brother, D’Avin Jaqobis (Luke Macfarlane), who woke up from another nightmare about his time as a soldier. Johnny then let the ship go. Dutch (Hannah John-Kamen) came aboard and knocked the smuggler they were after out, and as an apology, gave Johnny some of the smuggler’s gear, including a flame torch.

After docking, both Johnny and Dutch began to discuss with D’Avin about what he was going to do next. He couldn’t get off the ship, as he would get arrested for having no papers, which he almost was. However, Hills Oonan (Frank Moore) let it slide as he had a non-optional warrant for them to fulfill. They would be going to Sugar Point in Westerley, a place that had been bombed by the Company and was now ravaged by warlords and scavengers. There, in exchange for the warlord R’yo’s (Irene Poole) brother, Simon Muraayn (Michael Therriault), R’yo would give up her hostage, the daughter of the Mayor of Leith.

As soon as they arrived, they were immediately hit by a rocket grenade, which caused them to land in scavenger territory. Because they had to go across town to get to R’yo. Because Simon had ended up escaping, Johnny insisted that Dutch take D’Avin and use his skill as a soldier. Johnny was the only one who could repair and fly the ship to pick them up in two hours.

While they were gone, they managed to attract some unwelcome visitors in the form of some scavengers. Johnny then became surprised after Lucy told him that she had only twenty minutes of battery power left. However, this was because Dutch had been concerned about a security breach that had involved ten minutes of Lucy’s memory getting erased. It is why Dutch put up extra security measures which drained her power. Lucy and Johnny then set up a crazy plan, which worked, which involved allowing the scavengers to breach the ship. Once they were inside, Lucy would purge the oxygen from the ship.  Johnny would be able to get the part he needed from the scavenger’s car. Once on board, he began to patch Lucy up again but discovered that one of the scavengers had worn a helmet and wasn’t knocked out. However, Johnny managed to take care of him as soon as he managed to get to his new flame torch.

Meanwhile, D’Avin told Dutch that his plan was to get dropped off at Westerley’s badlands to become an outlaw, which Dutch thought was a bad plan. They then tracked Simon to his old house. It had been blown up and discovered that R’yo had turned into a sociopath, and was going to cut him open. However, before they could get to R’yo, they were captured by some scavengers, who stripped people of their organs, and began to start on Simon. However, Dutch, who woke up after having flash backs of her old training, managed to get her and D’Avin out, and the two of them scared the scavengers off. Simon didn’t make it, Dutch took what he had stolen from the Company, which contained launch codes for a missile.

After telling Dutch that he had gone back to the Quad to look for a doctor to help him, Dutch allowed him to make use of his soldier training to get the three of them out without giving R’yo the launch codes, and started a war between R’yo and another group.

On the roof, D’Avin began disabling the missile, and they managed to get out safely, as Johnny managed to get them just in time. As soon as they were clear, R’yo discovered that D’Avin made some modifications to the missile as it blew up on the roof.

Back at Old Town, at Westerley, D’Avin got temporary visiting papers which gave him a week to look for a job. Dutch suggested that he become a Killjoy and team up with them and looked for her target- the name in the box that she had been given. However, instead of killing the target, she decided to ask why Khlyen (Rob Stewart) wanted her to kill him.
