In “Start Calling Me Dad” (air date: Sept. 19, 2014), Dr. Thackery (Clive Owen) and Dr. Chickering (Michael Angarano) have finally perfected the fatal placenta praevia procedure. They were able to save their first mother and baby, following days of research and tests and the actual operation.

Dr. Edwards (Andre Holland) and his underground clinic was discovered by Dr. Thackery, who was threatening to fire his junior surgical chief. However, seeing that Edwards was able to do something ground breaking from where he was working, Thackery instead gave the black doctor his support. Things were going to change between them from now on, and it’s all for the good of everyone.
As for the rest of the characters, the Gallinger’s only daughter died due to meningitis, and Dr. Gallinger’s (Eric Johnson) wife was so inconsolable she became delusional. Sister Harriet suggested they adopt a baby from the orphanage to ease the pain of Mrs. Gallinger. The nun, Cleary and the ambulance driver were called in to help with a case of a woman who was raped. The two have form and deeper bond over helping other people in need. Barrow (Jeremy Bobb) was able to purchase the X-ray machine for the Knick, but he bought a second hand equipment for the price of a brand new one.
And lastly, Nurse Lucy (Ewe Hewson) and Chickering went out for pretzels, but the two ended up talking about their mutual admiration for Thackery.
