Robertson has to come up with hush money to silence it. Meanwhile, Thackery spirals further as his drug supply dwindles. Read on for the details to the upcoming episode. But first, here’s a quick review of what happened in the last one.
In “Working Late a Lot” (air date: Oct. 3, 2014), the romance between Dr. Thackery (Clive Owen) and Nurse Lucy (Eve Hewson) continued. The two were spending time together, with Lucy even learning to indulge in cocaine. Has she been corrupted? Thackery reasoned that they were having pleasure, so whatever they were doing to each other was not a sin.
Meanwhile, Cornelia Robertson (Juliet Rylance) and Dr. Edwards (Andre Holland) pressed on with their affair, with Cornelia telling her chauffeur that she would be working late a lot at the Knick, when she’s actually at Edwards’ place. In time, she would have to be upfront about this to her fiancé. But for now, Cornelia was enjoying her time with Edwards.
There was a shortage of drug supplies and Thackery was slowly going on withdrawal. Lucy was somehow able to give him a couple of vials for cocaine, just in time for his talk at the surgical conference. Thackery presented Edwards’ advanced hernia procedure to hundreds of surgeons and it was a success. However, he was overshadowed by a certain Dr. Levi Zinberg from another New York hospital, who invented a groundbreaking surgical apparatus. Thackery’s plan was to upstage him when he comes up again to present the placenta praevia case with Dr. Chickering.
Speaking of Chickering, Bertie’s father still insisted he leave Thackery and suggested that Zinberg would be a better mentor. His father also talked to Thackery at the conference, telling him to let his son transfer. But Bertie told his father he will remain at the Knick. Besides, he was in love with Nurse Lucy.
Dr. Gallinger, meanwhile, brought home an orphan baby for his wife, hoping it will make her grief about losing their baby disappear. But Eleanor has literally lost her mind. When the doctor came home one afternoon, he found the new baby crawling on the floor, hungry and crying all day, while Mrs. Gallinger just knitted.
