Recently, in the season nine finale of “Doctor Who” we saw how the Doctor bids goodbye to Clara Oswald (Jenna Coleman). Clara’s departure reveals that now the “Doctor” is left with no companion indicating the need for another one. It has also been predicted that he is likely to be joined by his wife River Song (Alex Kingston) during the 2015 Christmas special. However, there has been no announcement regarding who will join the Time Lord in his TARDIS while season 10 is already near.
In a conversation for the Christmas issue with the Radio Times, Peter Capaldi shared his views regarding what he thinks about the new companion, saying, “With the best will in the world, I don’t want a bloke, because I’m frightened that they’ll give him all the action and I’ll be standing around spouting scientific gobbledygook.”
Earlier, the current protagonist of the show has been opened about the fact that his companion must be “funny” to be with and not too serious together with being someone who can bring a good contrast to his character, since “Who” becomes quite darker at times.
One more factor that must not be forgotten is the pinch of glamour in almost all the situations. As per Capaldi, the lady must be a long time fan for the show as well. This will help her out in understanding the actual demand and essence of the character.
Peter Capaldi further explained that the combo of an inquisitiveness, enthusiasm and intelligence is also expected with the character of her lady. Since there has been no romantic component, when we talk about the male-female partnership, this gives an opportunity to both the characters to make their existence in a full-fledged way. It will be quite interesting to see how the next season of “Doctor Who” unfolds and who will be the female lead this time.
