Film and TV actress Kyra Sedgwick, best known for her role in TNT’s “The Closer,” heads back to her TV roots with a guest-starring spot in FOX’s “Brooklyn Nine-Nine.” Read on to find more about Movie News Guide’s (MNG)  scoop on “Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” including the casting news on Kyra Sedgwick.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the 48-year-old actress will be a guest star in the upcoming return of “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” Season 2. She will take on a different role as deputy chief in the FOX series.
Series co-creator and executive producer Dan Goor previously hinted on the personality of the unnamed character in an interview with TV Guide.

“It’s a person with whom Holt has a tremendous amount of history and all of it bad. “There will be a lot of negative pressure on Holt and the precinct because of [her],”said Goor in the TV Guide article.

Sedgwick’s character as Madeline Wuntch will be connected with Captain Holt’s (Emmy-nominated Andre Braugher) past. Their storyline will kick off with Wuntch’s higher job position than Captain Holt. She will return to Captain Holt’s life as the one who will evaluate his precinct. She will appear on “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” Season 2 Episode 2, which will air on Oct. 5, 2014 on FOX.

Sedgwick previously took the award-winning role of the Deputy Brenda Leigh Johnson as the head of the Los Angeles Police Department during the entire run of the police procedural series of “The Closer.” The series ended its seven-season run in 2012.

The franchise continued to flourish with a spinoff entitled “Major Crimes” starring Mary McDonnell as Captain Sharon Raydor. “Major Crimes,” which already have three seasons, have been planning on doing another spinoff. It will star Jon Tenney as Agent Fritz Howard, Kyra Sedgwick’s on-screen husband.

When “The Closer” wrapped up, Sedgwick had roles in several movies including the horror film “The Possession,” “Man on a Ledge,” “Kill Your Darling,” and “Chlorine.” She will be seen in the upcoming premieres of “Reach Me” and “Big Sky” in 2014.

“Brooklyn Nine-Nine” is created by Dan Goor and Michael Schur. It stars Andy Samberg (Detective Jacob “Jake” Peralta), Andre Braugher (Captain Raymond “Ray” Holt), Melissa Fumero (Det. Amy Santiago), Joe Lo Truglio (Det. Charles Boyle), Stephanie Beatriz (Det. Rosa Diaz), Terry Crews (Detective Sergeant Terence “Terry” Jeffords), Chelsea Peretti (Administrator Gina Linetti), Dirk Blocker (Detective Michael Hitchcock) and Joel McKinnon Miller (Detective Norm Scully).

And that’s it for “The Closer” star Kyra Sedgwick’s TV comeback on “Brooklyn Nine-Nine.” Season 2 will premiere on Sunday, Sept. 28, 2014 on FOX. Follow MNG as we keep you posted on updates about “Brooklyn Nine-Nine.”
