La La Land is a musical romantic comedy film. After its release, the film has managed to grab a number of awards. The list of awards ranges from seven Golden Globes to five BAFTA Awards. But has the film really left a deep impact on its audiences and critics. It remains hard to point out, as there have been mixed reviews over how people found the movie.
La La Land Wins At The Oscars
At one side, some have praised about La La Land immensely. However, few said that the two lead characters lacked chemistry in the movie. Furthermore, there is the technique in the movie which has been held at fault.
Notably, La La Land has made more than 10 times of its $30 million budget at the box office. Are these figures deceptive of its success? Has the film not been a masterpiece? Exploring further over this issue, Ryan Gosling’s character Sebastian gets accused of being boorish and insensitive. When Sebastian is not playing jazz, he is just going to stay around Emma Stone’s Mia. Both the characters are considered to be shallow and have been lacking in a perfect chemistry.
La La Land is written and directed by Damien Chazelle. Notably, the title of the film refers directly to the city of Los Angeles as well as the idiom stating that it is nowhere linked with reality. Some of the critical statements which have come up noted that it lacks in the narrative, misses out some elements of the plot and even has “reedy voices.”
The next question which comes forth is what are the good points which make La La Land memorable? Despite all the rumors, getting into the Oscars is a big achievement. In the past, it has been seen that musicals have not received my appreciation at the Oscars. But La La Land has challenged this trend. The film leads with almost 14 Academy Award nominations which include Best Picture, Best Actor, and Best Actress awards among others.
Craig Zadan Shares That La La Land Paves Way For Other Musicals
The last musical film which made it to the Oscars in 2002 was Chicago. Craig Zan co-produced the said movie. In the 89-year-old history of Oscars, only 10 musicals won the Oscar for Best Picture, reports The Guardian.
Craig Zadan goes on to state that musicals have always been considered as something not good. But now it seems like things a turning on a positive note with La La Land. The movie has created a buzz around studios. He added that they are looking ahead to catch the next musical.
