The Last Man on Earth” Season 1 Episode 3 “Raisin Balls and Wedding Bells” aired on Sunday, Mar. 8, 2015 at 9:00 p.m. on FOX. The wedding is finally happening and Phil realizes this can be good for him. But something happens at the end that stuns him to the core. Find out what happened in the recap below.

The episode opens with the wedding of Phil (Will Forte) and Carol (Kristen Schaal). Since they’re the only two people left, they officiate their own wedding. Phil thinks it’s still stupid to get married. They’re the last people on Earth. They don’t have to deal with the system. But as Carol opens the door of the church, there’s tons of people outside to cheer them on. What? Suddenly, Phil awakens from his dream and everyone is still dead.

That night, Carol brings Phil some food. She made raisin balls for him. It’ll be their final meal as single people before their wedding tomorrow. Yes, hard as Phil denies this, it is still happening. She’s preparing everything.  She asks Phil to get the rings. She gives him a walkie-talkie so that they can easily coordinate with each other.

Meantime, Carol has another “brilliant” idea. One of them has to be the president and they go to a vote, she declares it’s unanimous. Phil is president.

That morning, Carol raids a convenience store for crafts. Phil burns piles of tissue for his bachelor party with his ball buddies. He’s basically playing the rest of the day while Carol painstakingly prepares for the wedding. He gets a call on the walkie-talkie. Carol wants to know about the wedding rings, but he tells her he’s busy. What is he talking about? She’s watching him and knows he’s just been burning stuff.

Phil goes to the store with the pretty mannequin he’s had a crush on (in the episode “Elephant in the Room” air date: Mar. 1, 2015) and once again he attempts a conversation with her. He tells the unanimated object that he’s getting married to Carol even if she’s not the one. He tries to kiss the mannequin again but stops himself. He’s not the guy who takes advantage.

Phil gets to the church and finds that it has been decently decorated for the wedding. He follows the instructions and plays the recording.

And so it has started. Carol makes her bridal march and she’s actually wearing a wedding dress. The ceremony is pre-recorded by Carol, so all they have to do is stand and say their vows. Carol says something heartfelt, while Phil’s message is short, without any affection.

Next up, the rings. Unfortunately, Phil did not get any and Carol starts to cry. She calls him the worst and leaves the church without finishing the wedding.

Sometime after, Phil breaks down Carol’s door thinking she has holed herself up in there. He sees that her house has been filled with wedding decorations as well. It’s actually beautiful. He tries to talk to Carol using the walkie-talkie, but she brushes him off. He finds her at the crafts store. He starts telling her how much he finds Carol annoying, but the truth is, when she didn’t return after leaving the church, he got worried. He realizes he’d rather be challenged by her than go back to living alone. She’s touched and they make up.

Driving back home, Phil decides to take a detour and hands her a sledgehammer. They raided a jewelry store where Carol gets at least a dozen wedding rings. Then, they finish the day off by actually getting married. They smack on the lips.

That night, Carol walks in front of Phil naked. They’re going to try to procreate, but it doesn’t look like Phil’s having a great time. The sex was so weird. They do it all over again on the second night. Now that they’re married, Carol tries to get into the stuff Phil likes, such as burning and destroying stuff. He also introduces her to his “ex-girlfriend,” the mannequin. Carol destroys her.

On their drive back home to their house, Phil declares that being married isn’t so bad after all. He’s slowly getting a change of heart about this whole idea. But suddenly, their car gets rammed by another car, much to their shock and surprise. Phil runs to see what’s up with the other car and guess who comes out but a really beautiful girl (guest star January Jones). Phil is stunned!
