“The Last of Robin Hood” Synopsis:

Set in the 1950s, the film is about Errol Flynn (Kline), a famous Hollywood leading man who took a liking on the 15-year-old Beverly Aadland (Fanning). Her mother, Florence (Susan Sarandon), was indifferent on what her daughter might turn out after her affiliation with the old Flynn, just as long as her daughter gets a taste of fame.

Stanley Kubrick (Casella) expressed his interest to Flynn in casting him as the aging Humbert Humbert in the film adaptation of Nabokov’s novel. However, Flynn will only pursue the project if he is paired with Beverly.

“The Last of Robin Hood” Review:

As of this writing, “The Last of Robin Hood” has received a 33 percent rating from the critics of Rotten Tomatoes. Moreover, 76 percent of the moviegoers would like to see the film.

The Hollywood Reporter’s Todd McCarthy was not that impressed with how the directorial approach in the film went. According to McCarthy, it prevented the story from truly coming to life. He also noted that Fanning and Kline’s acting were superb, but their tandem was not as erotic as “Magnificent Obsession’s” Jane Wyman and Rock Hudson.

“A literate, well-acted but far too tidy account of the final years of Hollywood roué Errol Flynn with his teenage girlfriend,” added McCarthy in his review.

Meanwhile, Peter Debruge of Variety mentioned in his review that perhaps the creators of the film want the audience to empathize with the gooey romance.
