The Last Ship” Season 2 Episode 6 “Long Day’s Journey” aired on Sunday, July 19, 2015, at 9:00 p.m. on TNT. In this episode, after Dr. Rachel Scott (Rhona Mitra) and Commander Thomas “Tom” Chandler (Eric Dane) came to terms after arguing about what to do next, Rachel discovered a better way to spread the cure to the people and Chandler and his team discovered what Sean Ramsey (Brian F. O’Byrne) was really up to after following them to marina in Florida. Read on to learn more about this episode.

The episode began with Ned Ramsey (Nick Court) telling his older brother, Sean Ramsey (Brian F. O’Byrne) that he wanted to hunt the USS Nathan James, and didn’t like Niels Sorenson’s (Ebon Moss-Bachrach). However, his brother reassured him that he had a plan. He said that those inside the submarine would be going after the American destroyer after the submarine’s sound matting was repaired. Later, it turned out that Niels was to weed out those who were immune by infecting them with his breath. Inside the submarine, tensions ran high, and arguments were rampant.

Meanwhile, on the USS Nathan James, Dr. Rachel Scott (Rhona Mitra) wanted to get to the laboratory in Florida in order to get more cultures to make the vaccine. However, Commander Thomas “Tom” Chandler (Eric Dane) was now bent on finding the submarine, and making them pay for bombing all the other laboratories in the United States.

They were then interrupted by Lieutenant Alisha Granderson (Christina Elmore) who showed Rachel a video done by Dr. Julius Hunter (Timothy Landfield) before he had been shot by the men from the submarine. They got the information about the other secret laboratories from the laboratory servers. It turned out that Hunter had figured out a way to convert the vaccine into a powder, which could be spread around in the atmosphere so that by breathing it in, people would be cured. After being reminded about what their primary mission was, and after realizing that the submarine’s crew may have people on the ground, Chandler, and his team headed over to the laboratory. They found what they had expected- all of the doctors had been killed, including Hunter.

After Master Chief Hugh Jeter (Charles Parnell) gently reminded Chandler to not make the submarine his “white whale”, Jeter, Seaman Miller (Kevin Michael Martin) and Cruz (Ness Bautista) escorted Rachel back to the Nathan James. The rest stayed with Chandler in order to hunt down whoever from the submarine was on the ground.

After finding a boat at the edge of a Florida swamp, Chandler had Executive Officer Mike Slattery (Adam Baldwin) and Lieutenant Kara Foster (Marissa Neitling) conduct an aerial search for a target. After locating one, they discovered themselves near a camp that looked like a safe zone. There, they also discovered several mercenaries who were directly communicating with the submarine. It led Foster, Ensign Will Mason (Chris Sheffield), Granderson and Lieutenant  John “Gator” Mejia (Michael Curran-Dorsano) to try and locate the submarine.

Fortunately for them, the signal became stronger after Ned contacted the submarine. After Mason identified the source of the signal as a radio relay that was a buoy, Foster gave the order to destroy it so that they wouldn’t have any means of communicating with each other from the land.

Meanwhile, Chandler and his team, after changing into civilian clothes, and leaving some weapons behind, split up into two teams.

Chandler, Lieutenant Carlton Burk (Jocko Sims) and Lieutenant Ravit Bivas (Inbar Lavi) joined a bus that was heading out. Meanwhile. Lieutenant Danny Green (Travis Van Winkle), Tex Nolan (John Pyper-Ferguson) and Senior Chief Wolf Taylor (Bren Foster), the team’s rally point person, headed out in a truck they commandeered.

Once at the Sea Port Marina, Taylor left the truck to find a rally point while Tex and Green were ushered in through the service entrance. Meanwhile, Ravit, Burk, and Chandler headed inside.

Meanwhile, Culinary Specialist 2 Bernie “Bacon” Cowley (Amen Igbinosun) made Rachel realized that they needed a food base to stabilize the vaccine. She discovered that the secret ingredient to turn it into powder form was cornstarch.

Back on land, Chandler and Burk discovered that Sean had created a cult of Immunes around him, and appointed the twelfth in line to be president, Housing and Urban Development Secretary Jeffrey Michener (Mark Moses) as the new president. He did it in order to solidifying the fact that the Immune United States had just proclaimed its support to Sean himself.
