Meanwhile, after an encounter with a group of youthful survivors who informed the crew of the USS Nathan James of the bounty on their heads, they ambushed and captured some of the Immunes. Back on the ship, President Jeffrey Michener (Mark Moses) continued to come to terms with his being the President of the United States. Read on to learn more about this episode.
The episode began with Commander Thomas “Tom” Chandler (Eric Dane) persuading Dr. Rachel Scott (Rhona Mitra) to talk and work with Niels Sorenson (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) in order for her to finally stabilize the cure to be distributed. Later on, she realized that his help would help speed up the process. While working together, Rachel learned that Niels had only known of Dr. Julius Hunter (Timothy Landfiield) by reputation, which made her realize that Niels didn’t have a big hand in his death.
After checking on the new President of the United States, President Jeffrey Michener (Mark Moses), Chandler told Master Chief Hugh Jeter (Charles Parnell) to give Michener all the help he needed in so that he could successfully lead America, as Chandler had realized that Michener wasn’t ready yet.
The entire ship, however, was on its way to New Orleans.
Later, Rachel informed Chandler and Executive Officer Mike Slattery (Adam Baldwin) that she needed freshwater mussels in order to stabilize the virus, as mussels, in order to survive the harshest of habitats, have spores that would stabilize the virus.
While on land, Lieutenant Carlton Burk (Jocko Sims) and the others encountered a group of teenagers, led by a teenager named Ray Diaz (Adam Irogoyen).
It turned out that they were at a summer camp when the virus broke out and got abandoned by their counselors.
After learning that the Immunes had offered them shelter and weapons in exchange for the crew of the USS Nathan James, Chandler gave him a counter-offer. Ray would help them ambush and capture the Immunes in exchange for safe passage and shelter on the ship.
Meanwhile, after giving the President a little tour of the mess hall, Michener ran out to the front deck. He told Jeter that he didn’t think he could make any big decisions as a President should, especially after his last ever decision had caused many to die. However, Jeter reassured him and told him to give it time.
A little bit later on, he decided to move on and began to read all the intelligence reports that they had rescued from the White House.
Meanwhile, after all the preparations were made to ambush the Immunes, Ray shot a flare into the sky. He told Chandler that he couldn’t send him to the ship now, as he really wanted to stay and fight. Angered, Chandler locked him inside his trailer. However, Ray broke out after discovering that one of his boys, Cody (Dimitri Schuyler-Linch) had stayed behind to help Chandler and his team fight.
Chandler then left the firefight in order to look for Cody and found him dead inside a nearby building. He was then confronted by an Immune but was saved by Ray.
Back on the ship, after witnessing the fight from the combat center, Michener Chandler, Slattery and the other senior personnel, and began to tell them of his plan of action for when they arrived at New Orleans.
Later, Chandler comforted Ray, who now knew that being in battle was no joke.
While this happened, Rachel realized that the best way to distribute the cure was to distribute it the way that Niels infected others- by putting the cure into a person’s lungs, which would then reproduce it.
In order to do this, she used some DNA scissors in order to obtain a vital part of the virus’ gene that was deep inside Niels’ lungs. However, this meant that the virus within his lungs would spread into the other parts of his body, thus effectively killing him. This is exactly what she did, and she watched as he died in front of her.
