Read on only to learn more about this episode.
The episode began with an episode from the “13aker’s Dozen.” It is a reality television show about a family who was very serious about their faith.
However, things quickly went south when 13-year-old Lane Baker (Victoria Leigh) was revealed to be three months pregnant. It was after fainting at a virtue ball in New York where fathers and daughters celebrated the chastity and purity of the daughter.
Because Lane was underage, the hospital called the Manhattan Special Victims Unit, who discovered that the family was not exactly cooperative and also met the family’s pastor and lawyer, Pastor Gregory Elden (Ryan Devlin).
At first, Sergeant Mike Dodds (Andy Karl) was reluctant for them to continue pursuing the case as he had had a similar case before which had gone nowhere. It was especially as they were dealing with a very close knit community and family.
However, Lieutenant Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay), after discovering that Lane could have only gotten pregnant while she was on a mission in New York three months ago, she decided to actively pursue the case.
They then brought the Baker family in so that Olivia could talk to Lane alone.
Meanwhile, Detective Dominick “Sonny” Carisi, Jr. (Peter Scanavino) helped take care of the other children, and spoke a little bit to one of Lane’s brothers while the others talked a little bit to Lane’s parents, Frank Baker (Christopher Siebar) and Pam Baker (Geneva Carr).
Afterwards, Lane, who hinted that the person who had gotten her pregnant was someone who did love her and someone who worked with the family closely, named the Baker’s long time camera man, Pete Matthews (Chris Elliot) as the perpetrator. H
owever, they soon discovered that it couldn’t have been him, as he had had a vasectomy years ago, and accused Lane’s brother, Graham, as he did have some issues, such as touching and harassing the Baker’s piano teacher before. They also discovered that Graham had been sent to a camp to correct his behaviour.
In order to get more proof, Detective Odafin “Fin” Tutuola (Ice T) and Carisi went up to Allenville, and managed to get Graham’s sealed records. It was thanks to a particular policeman who wasn’t afraid of anything that the local elders of the community could do to him.
Back at the squad room, Detective Amanda Rollins (Kelli Giddish) theorized that Graham could have been the father of two-year-old Tate, with his sister Summer, as Pam’s announcement on her blog regarding her being pregnant with Tate was a little bit off in the timeline presented in the family’s blog and show.
They were able to get Tate’s DNA as he had drooled on Carisi’s suit. He had used it as a makeshift blanket for Tate when the Baker’s had been there, but they weren’t able to get Graham’s DNA as he was on a mission in Ecuador.
However, after having the DNA tested, they discovered that Summer was indeed Tate’s mother, but that Graham wasn’t Tate’s father.
They were then interrupted as Rollins suddenly felt ill, and was rushed to the Emergency Room. A concerned Carisi stayed by her bedside and comforted her after she broke down as she was a little bit scared and overwhelmed with the fact that she would be raising the baby by herself. She was also advised to be on bed rest until she gave birth.
Back at the squad room, they realized that the only other person who was close to the family was Pastor Elden. They then got a sample of his DNA, which told them that he was Tate’s father.
However, when they went to his office, they discovered that he had left for Allenville. He was getting a civil marriage with Lane, as the parents believed that he would just help provide for the baby.
There, Benson and the others told them the sordid truth, and Elden was arrested.
Later on, he pled guilty for multiple counts of statutory rape, and Dodds discovered from Benson that rapists usually preyed on where they were most trusted.
