“This Is Where I Leave You” is a drama comedy film adaptation of Jonathan Tropper’s 2009 best-selling novel of the same name. It opens on September 12, 2014 in U.S. theatres. It is directed by Shawn Levy. Some of the cast members include Tina Fey (Wendy Foxman), Jane Fonda (Hillary Foxman), Jason Bateman (Judd Foxman), Corey Stoll (Paul Foxman), Kathryn Hahn (Alice Foxman), Adam Driver (Phillip Foxman), Abigail Spencer (Jen), Rose Byrne (Penny) and Timothy Olyphant (Horry). Warner Bros. Pictures has released the film’s official trailer. You can watch it at the end of this article. Read on to learn more about it here at Movie News Guide’s (MNG) “This Is Where I Leave You” preview, including the film’s synopsis.
“This Is Where I Leave You” Synopsis:
The Foxman patriarch died. He had a wish and that is for his children to stay in their childhood home for a week. As their mother puts it, they are all grounded for a week, alongside their own families, friends, and exes. During their stay, the four grown siblings, each with a struggle in his or her life, now surrounded with people who truly know and love them, find a way to reflect on their life choices and eventually reconnect with each other.
What makes the movie more interesting is Tina Fey’s take on a drama film. Sure, there are some funny and humorous scenes, judging from the trailer. However, as Richard Lawson of Vanity Fair puts it, “Funny people can often make the most compelling dramatic actors.”
Lawson even cited the performances of Jim Carrey in “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” and Molly Shannon in “Year of the Dog.”
Meanwhile, Fey emphasized with Entertainment Weekly that the film is not a dark comedy but an emotional comedy. Levy, on the other hand, shared what it was like shooting the film and how the crew felt a connection with several scenes in the film.
