Legends” Season 1 Episode 6 “Gauntlet” aired on Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2014, at 9:00 p.m. on TNT. Martin Odum is on the run and his hostage, Kyle Dobson, is wounded. Read the recap to learn more about this episode.

“Gauntlet” opened with Martin (Sean Bean) and Dobson (Kirk Acevedo) escaping a wrecked car in Houston. They were being chased by some of Dobson’s people, since Martin kidnapped him (in the previous episode, “Rogue,” air date: Sept. 10, 2014). He had no choice as Dobson was hostile, but he needed answers from him. The two then board a bus to get to the hospital. But the bus driver reported them to the authorities, so a road block was set.

Martin and Dobson were caught by the police. To prove that he wasn’t a fugitive, Martin asked the police to call Gates (Steve Harris) at the FBI’s Deep Cover Operations (DCO) unit. While Gates was still getting to the bottom of why Martin had gone rogue, he gave him his full support and sorted it out with the cops in no time. The two were then brought to the hospital, where Dobson was operated on.

Martin was waiting outside the OR with the intention of questioning Dobson about McCombs, Evans, Iraq and his real identity. He was going to get answers as soon as Dobson is better after the surgery. But a nurse gave Martin something to drink and later, he found himself so groggy, with Dobson already gone. Then, someone pretending to be an FBI agent confronted Martin about why he’s in Houston, but he knew better to get caught. He remembered what McCombs told him: Do not trust anyone.

Martin chased after the other agent that had Dobson and caught up to them. So for the second time, he was on the run with Dobson as his hostage.

Meanwhile, back at the DCO, Crystal (Ali Larter) and Rice (Morris Chestnut) were piecing together what they know of Martin’s whereabouts, who by then had switched to the legend Len Barlow. Gates arrived and wondered what Rice was doing at his office. Didn’t he warn him about investigating Martin’s case? Anyway, since Martin was already in trouble in Houston, he directed Crystal and Rice to bring Martin back. They can probably also find answers to the case Rice was working on.

Later, Gates was secretly talking to Sonya, Martin’s wife. They were working together, lying to Martin this whole time! But their meeting seemed to imply that they only knew parts of the big conspiracy, and someone else has been killing all those who were connected to Martin in Iraq. Gates advised Sonya to be there for Martin when he returns from his rogue mission in Houston, saying that Martin will need her more than ever. It shouldn’t be a problem for Sonya, who said that she still loves Martin.

Back to Martin and Dobson, the two were able to find an abandoned house. They were going to temporarily seek safety and security there, as it seemed like those men after them would be relentless. But, surprise, surprise! Dobson revealed that he actually had a tracker on him this whole time.  He also knew that the team of assassins after them sent by the company he’s been working for, the Verax Corporation, would end up killing him too. This was not a mission to rescue Dobson from Martin. This was to kill them both.

Martin was able to call Maggie so that she could track where they were and have a team come to back them up before the assassins arrived. Maggie, by the way, confessed to Gates that he helped Martin set up his legend Len Barlow so that he could meet with Dobson. She apologized to Martin about this, but he assured her that none of this was her fault.

With a change of heart, Dobson shared to Martin what he knew about Iraq. But despite Dobson’s stories, Martin’s recollection of Operation Raining Fire was vague still.

Why don’t you just think of it as bonus? There were lots of things I wish I could forget about that place.

The team of assassins have arrived at the abandoned house, and Martin was ready for them. Running low on ammunition, he was still able to wipe them out, killing them all before Crystal and Rice, as well as the rest of the DCO, arrived.  All should be okay now because back up was there. But as soon as Martin and Dobson stepped out of the hosue, a sniper shot the latter, killing him instantly. Whatever Dobson had to tell Martin about his stint in Iraq would never be answered.

This episode also featured Rice and Crystal investigating Dobson’s original hideout in Houston. Martin had tipped the DCO about finding missiles there, and it looked like this will be the next storyline, as the DCO is sure to find out more about Verax Corporation.
