Legends” Season 1 Episode 3 “Lords of War” aired on Wednesday, Aug. 27. 2014, at 9:00 p.m. on TNT. Martin Odum went on deep undercover as Dante Auerbach in order to penetrate the Russian mob and prevent the sale of the deadly VX gas, as well as save the chemist Richard Hubbarb and his family. Find out what happened in this episode in the recap below.

The episode opened at the lab where Hubbarb (David Munier) was working on the VX gas. It looked he was plotting something, too. Suddenly, there was a fire, and Hubbarb was able to escape the building with his wife and kids. But the gate was locked, so the Colonel and his men caught up to them. The Colonel threatened Hubbarb that if he does the stunt again, his wife and daughter will be the first to die.

At the Deep Cover Operations (DCO) unit of the FBI, the team was being briefed on Martin Odum’s (Sean Bean) newest legend, Dante Auerbach, the arms dealer. Martin, as Dante, was on the move. He was to meet with an old business associate to find his way into the Chechen group that had kidnapped Hubbarb and his family.

At first, he hinted to his contact that he was looking for a different product, something that’s bigger with a better return of investments. He‘s hearing something about a Chechen deal. Can his contact set him up? He was advised that this would be risky, but he does know of a Chechen contact who could help him. It was someone named Paulanos.

Paulanos, it turned out, was Ana Paulanos (Necar Zadegan), a gorgeous woman who’s into weapons and arms dealing, just like Odum’s legend. But she didn’t want to do business with Auerbach because she didn’t know him. Yet Martin, having done undercover for many, many years, charmed his way into her. Somehow, Paulanos took the bait. Martin was also able to put a tracker on Paulanos, for Maggie (Tina Marjorino) from the DCO to keep tabs on.

After meeting with Martin (as Auerbach), Paulanos made a call to a buyer to confirm their deal. What was she selling? Was it the VX gas? The DCO traced the guy she was talking to. He was a French arms dealer. Martin went to his hotel room to torture him for information. He also asked him to call Paulanos to tell her that he’s out of the business deal so that Martin as Auerbach can swoop it in.

Now without a buyer, Paulanos had set up another meeting with Auerbach. This time, she got to know him a little bit better and the two ended up in bed. The next morning, convinced that he was really an interested businessmn, Paulanos arranged for Auerbach to meet with the Colonel, who had the product he wanted. All the while, the DCO was tracking everything up to the very second. They found out the Colonel’s identity: Yuri Medved (Alon Aboutboul).

So while Auerbach was with the Colonel, the DCO was able to track Hubbarb’s laboratory. Thus, they were able to rescue him and his wife. But then, the VX gas was nowhere to be found. It was with the Colonel, and he ordered Auerbach to use the deadly gas on a man whom the Colonel has obviously been holding captive against his wishes. Martin as Auerbach was concerned.

Auerbach: “I’m a businessman, not a killer. Do your own dirty work.”

But he knew that if he didn’t do what the Colonel wants, then this mission would have failed. Martin saw firsthand how deadly this gas can be, but this storyline would have to continue in the next episode.

Also in this episode, Agent Rice (Morris Chestnut) from the FBI Transportation Security, who has been investigating the case of the death of Martin’s mystery man in the pilot went to Nelson Gates (Steve Harris) to ask him why Martin seemed to be interested in his case. Did he kill him? Gates was tight-lipped about it, protecting his agent, but also because he still needs to ask Martin the same question: What was his connection to the man who died on the subway? Later, Gates visited Rice at his home to warn him to back off Odum, or else he will be blowing his cover. But Rice was determined. He will find evidence.
