‘Let’s Be Cops’ Opens To $1.2M In Late Night Tuesday

“Let’s Be Cops,” the cop buddy comedy from 20th Century Fox starring “New Girl” cast members Jake Johnson and Damon Wayans Jr., opened last night to $1.2 million in late nights that began at 10 p.m. Read on to learn more about the story.

According to Deadline, Luke Greenfield-directed comedy movie stars Johnson and Wayans Jr. as two buddies who dress up as LA’s finest police officers for a costume party and they become neighborhood sensations because of it. Realizing the benefits of being a fake cop, the buddies take the experience on a whole new level, accidentally getting tangled with real of mobsters and dirty detectives; they must now put their fake badges on the line and save the day.

Similarly, “We’re the Millers” who premiered Tuesday 8 p.m., last year opened with $1.7 million, going to $6.7 million on its second day, $6.4 million on the 3rd day and $37.9 million on the 5th day. “A Haunted House,” another R-rated comedy alike, opened last year to $18.1 million for the three-day.

Johnson and Wayans are widely known for their roles in the FOX’s hit sitcom series, “New Girl,” as Nick Miller and Coach respectively. Wayans first appeared on the series pilot but was later replaced by Lamorne Morris’ character Winston due to scheduling conflicts with his other sitcom, ABC’s “Happy Endings,” having renewed for a new season that time. He reprised his role in Season 3′s “Coach” and was credited as special guest star for all his appearances in the said season. Wayans was officially re-added as a series regular for the upcoming Season 4. Wayans will be lending his voice to Wasabi in Disney and Marvel’s animation pic, “Big Hero 6.”

Moreover, Johnson has received a Teen Choice Awards nomination for his role as Nick Miller. His other notable works include “Paper Heart” (2009) and “Safety Not Guaranteed” (2012). He also made an appearance in the films “Get Him to the Greek” and “21 Jump Street.” His first starring role in a feature film was “Drinking Buddies,” opposite Olivia Wilde.

“Let’s Be Cops” is produced, directed and written by Luke Greenfield, known for directing the 2004 film “The Girl Next Door.”  The upcoming comedy pic is co-written by Nicholas Thomas. The film stars Jake Johnson and Damon Wayans Jr., along with Andy Garcia, Nina Dobrev, Rob Riggle, Keegan-Michael Key and James D’Arcy.
