“Life of Crime” Synopsis:

The film is about small-time crooks who decide to kidnap Mickey Dawson (Aniston), the wife of Detroit businessman Frank (Robbins). The crooks demand a million to the businessman in exchange for his wife. They also threaten to expose his ill-gotten money in an offshore bank account. However, what these crooks do not know is that Frank has already filed a divorce and is having an illicit affair with Melanie (Fisher).

“Life of Crime” Review:

As of this writing, the critics from Rotten Tomatoes have given this film a 67 percent rating, while 89 percent of the moviegoers would like to see it.

According to John DeFore of The Hollywood Reporter, the film may have been promising in the beginning and has delivered a funny ending, but it was lacking in between.

“Kidnapping tale has the right elements but never catches fire,” wrote DeFore in his review.

Meanwhile, Variety’s Dennis Harvey had a different take on the dark comedy film. Although the movie lost a few narrative pieces, he still praised the film for staying true to the novel and how the characters manage to fill in the resulting gaps.

“A fitting memorial to Elmore Leonard, “Life of Crime” reps one of the most faithful of the many adaptations of the author’s work,” wrote Harvey in his review.
