Ryan Reynolds and Jake Gyllenhaal are two astronauts who discovers life on Mars in the sci-fi movie Life. Days before the movie opens in cinemas worldwide, Sony Pictures released a new trailer featuring the alien that threatens the existence of humanity on Earth. Find out everything to know – the cast, the synopsis, the release date – below.

Life on Mars

This new movie is not big blockbuster sequel nor a comic book movie so not a lot of people are probably anticipating this movie. An alien thriller is also something that majority of the audience have already seen countless times before. Man finds alien, alien turns out to be flesh-eating monsters; it is a story that has been told before. However, Life boasts of a stellar cast and crew.

As mentioned, Reynolds, who just came out last year from the runaway success of Deadpool, stars in the sci-fi movie. He plays the role of Roy Adams, one of the astronauts on board the International Space Station when the sample from Mars returned with an extraterrestrial life form.

Reynolds’ involvement is a no-brainer. The alien thriller also tapped Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick to pen the script. The two work as screenwriters for Deadpool and the anticipated sequel Deadpool 2.

Rebecca Ferguson (Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation, The White Queen) stars as Miranda North. Jake Gyllenhaal, who also just emerged from the award-winning movie Nocturnal Animals from designer Tom Ford, also appear in the upcoming thriller as David Jordan. Hiroyuki Sanada, Ariyon Bakare and Olga Dihovichnaya complete the crew aboard the ISS. Daniel Espinosa (Safe House) directed the movie.

Here is the synopsis for Life: “Life is a terrifying sci-fi thriller about a team of scientists aboard the International Space Station whose mission of discovery turns to one of primal fear when they find a rapidly evolving life form that caused extinction on Mars, and now threatens the crew and all life on Earth.”

What Makes The Movie Different From Sci-Fi Thrillers?

Dihovichnaya told Collider that Life is somehow similar to how people respond to something they do not know. The scientists in the space station encounter the alien, but to the rest of humanity who will never go to space or might not live to see the discovery of extraterrestrial creatures, it is someone of different beliefs or appearance.

Gyllenhaal added that the movie is all about human behavior. Because the characters are enclosed inside the ISS with no chance of escape, the movie looks at how humans react to an intense situation. All agree that the movie is an exhilarating journey from start to finish. Watch an extended sneak peek below.
