“Un-Real” stars Shiri Appleby (“Girls”), Constance Zimmer (“House of Cards”), Freddie Stroma (“Harry Potter” film franchise), Josh Kelly (“Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen,” “Transformers: Dark of the Moon”), Nathalie Kelley (“Body of Proof”), Johanna Braddy (“Easy A”), Breeda Wool, Ashley Scott (“Dark Angels”) and Bonita Friedericy (“Chuck”). According to Deadline, Lifetime GM Rob Sharenow confirmed that the network ordered 10-episodes of “Un-Real.” The series is created by Marti Noxon and Sarah Gertrude Shapiro. It is executively produced by Noxon, Shapiro, Bill Davenport and Sally DeSipio through A+E Studios and Wieden-Kennedy Entertainment. It has been greenlighted to series alongside “The Lottery” and “Deliverance Creek” by Lifetime.
“It’s premium and original on every level, and we’re thrilled that Marti Noxon and Sarah Gertrude Shapiro’s unique series will be Lifetime’s first program produced by A+E Studios,” said Sharenow in the Deadline article.
The story of “Un-Real” was inspired on “Sequin Raze,” Sarah Gertrude Shapiro’s award-winning short film. It give the viewers a glimpse on how a dating competition program works behind the camera. It follows the life of Rachel (Shiri Appleby) as a staff working at a dating show under the strict leadership of an executive producer named Julia (Constance Zimmer).
She was tasked to get the juiciest and scandalous footages by manipulating the contestants’ relationships. They will be joined by Josh Kelly (Jeremy), Rachel’s ex-boyfriend, who worked as a cameraman for the dating show. Some of the actors who were cast as the show’s contestants were Freddie Stroma and Arielle Kiebler.
The Wrap reported on latest casting news about the upcoming “Un-Real” series. It was said that Craig Bierko (“Damages”) as the arrogant Chet, the show’s creator. Aline Elasmar, who was known for her role in “Bring It On: All or Nothing,” will play the role of Inez, one of the field producers of the series.
The upcoming dark comedy drama will join the roster of Marti Noxon’s greenlighted TV series for 2014 and 2015. It will join other shows including the TV adaptation of Gillian Flynn’s “Sharp Objects” on eOne channel and Bravo’s “The Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce,” the network’s first ever scripted series. Her other works as a writer include “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” “Glee” and the 2011 film “I Am Number Four” starring Alex Pettyfer.
